I am putting together the necessary models for Denmark Straits. It's for a class of 5th and 6th graders, so I'm going for ruggedness over historical accuracy in the ships; rather than subject my 1/700 scale models, in other words, I'm using suitably modified plastic ships by Strombecker. That said, does anyone have a suggestion as to what I could use for Swordfish? I don't mind the planes being a bit larger than they should be, although 1/144 would be TOO large. I've been trying to think of small WWI biplanes that look close enough, but am coming up empty . . .

Chris,

You could always get some 1/700 scale plastic planes. Here are some links to a few items (the links are to pages from Pacific Front Hobbies):

Or you could go to 1/350 scale with some resin models:

Navwar does some 1/300th scale ones

I'm not sure what scale the Strombecker ships are, but if they're 1/700, Tumbling Dice does Swordfish in 1/600. Brookhurst Hobbies carries them in the US.

I also saw that Skytrex makes some for their coastal forces range. You can get them from WarWeb.

Thank you all. The easiest to acquire appear to be the Swordfish from War at Sea (special thanks, Jake!)
