There is a new site up for the Mutant Chronicles miniatures game. As noted it is 54mm "scale" so I will have to make all new terrain just for this. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I am supposed to resist?

Dropzonetoe Fezian12 Mar 2008 8:09 a.m. PST

Easy it's 54mm and you will have to make new terrain. Think you answered your own question really. :)

Earl of the North12 Mar 2008 9:25 a.m. PST

Yep, no interest due to the scale……large aliens might be useful if they come up cheap on ebay, other wise no interest.

Pick up Ultimate Warzone rules cheap on e-bay.
Use 28mm figures..

You no longer have a problem..

terrain sherlock12 Mar 2008 9:58 a.m. PST

Took a quick look.. lessee.. booster packs for 19.95..
with 4 figs (one large).. so call it 5 figs equivalent.

Gee.. that's only $4.00 USD per figure..

Oh yes.. I need to spend $4.00 USD per figure.. <snort>

Caesar12 Mar 2008 10:00 a.m. PST

You'll probably pay $2 USD for a fig half that size…

Brother Jim12 Mar 2008 10:40 a.m. PST

OOOOhhhhhhh ???!!!!!! I just thought of a reason to buy a couple of these figs on the reseller market.

To repaint as statues/terrain.

Here's what one guy I know said on his BLOG.

I saw these at GenCon Indy last year. I'm an old time Warzone 1st and 2nd Edition player and have a few copies of the original Siege of the Citadel. The new scale is a definite deal killer for me.

54mm = No Sale

..to me anyways. Not compatible with anything I already have and I have lots of warzone figs I can use.

Dave Gamer12 Mar 2008 12:48 p.m. PST

54mm is a killer for me too, as I'm moving into 90mm (seriously).

Actually, I have a bunch of 54mm plastics – the only thing that keeps me from going whole hog into 54mm is there's not enough variety – you need to do a lot of conversions and I not big on doing conversions.

If FFG comes out with a good variety of 54mm grunts for the game, I may pick them up and remove them from their bases and use them with other game rules.

Mike Hardy12 Mar 2008 1:24 p.m. PST

Meh…

Not my style, so, no temptation.

"Oh yes.. I need to spend $4.00 USD USD per figure.. <snort>"
$4 USD for a 54mm figure is not expensive at all! Most 28mm figs run around $3-$5. So, this is a good deal.

Cheers!

What???
Now Mutant Chronicles is going the pre-painted route? Oh it's the end of the world. Just in time for the movie release to I'll bet.

My idea of playing it with 15mm is looking better and better. Any one know any 15mm WWI scale miniatures?

Minifig, Peter Pig for starters

Topkick89012 Mar 2008 3:52 p.m. PST

The movie has been coming for about as long as FFG has been promising release of this game. I'm doubting that either will ever actually make it to release.

Glenn M12 Mar 2008 9:27 p.m. PST

Well I hope they get it out to the market so I pick them up super cheap after it all flops. Then I have a lot of 54mm figures that I can use for other games :D

wolvermonkey12 Mar 2008 9:54 p.m. PST

Ultimate Warzone rules cheap on Ebay? Where? I never see those on there just the RPG rules. And I've been lookiing for them too. Guess I have too look more.

CmdrKiley13 Mar 2008 6:25 a.m. PST

Most of the sculpts are not all that impressive, particularly the humans. Paintjobs are not all that great for studio examples either, and I don't expect what you get out of the box to be any better.

Scale is a big turn-off for me as well. Even if I get them out of the discount bin for next to nothing, I won't have much use for them.

Good thing I'm well stocked with my Warzone collection.

TwoGunBob13 Mar 2008 7:40 a.m. PST

The scale coupled with the price for bendy plastic are the final deal killers for me. Besides, I'm not the pre-painted demographic which is supposedly seperate from the people that like to relax and paint their figures. It seems to me that the prepaint market is pretty flash in the pan with a splash release and then the game proceeds to die off as prepainted game players tend to look for the next big shiny. Could be since I'm not in the prepainted demographic I'm not aware of the lasting popularity of games but does anyone still have a thriving Mageknight community? I guess Horrorclix has a following but I just don't hear much buzz about these games once they're released.

15mm and 28mm Fanatik13 Mar 2008 10:08 p.m. PST

I actually think going the 54mm route is a good idea because it allows them to achieve better painting quality that are harder to attain in 28mm. I haven't seen a prepainted 28mm figure that I would say is painted very well, whether it's by WizKids, Rackham or Mongoose. Just go to your local Walmart and look at the Star Wars Unleashed Battle Packs and you'll see what I mean.

You don't need to buy 54mm terrain, because this game is played on battle mats with hexes just like the Star Wars and Axis & Allies CMG's.

The only thing I'm disappointed in is that there are only 4 factions. They left out Imperial, Mishima and Cybertronic. I'm still going to get it though.

"The only thing I'm disappointed in is that there are only 4 factions. They left out Imperial, Mishima and Cybertronic. I'm still going to get it though."

They say in the text "There are four distinct factions in the first set of the Mutant Chronicles CMG, with more to come in future expansions!" so you would assume the others will come out in new boosters, also assuming they sell that is.

"I actually think going the 54mm route is a good idea because it allows them to achieve better painting quality that are harder to attain in 28mm."

You'd think. However based on those samples on their website, neither the sculpts or the paintjobs appear to be superior to any 28mm. The monsters seem OK, but most of the human figures look pretty subpar to me.

If these are examples of the studio shots, I'd hate to see what you get in the box.

Capt Flash14 Mar 2008 4:14 p.m. PST

Well as a former 54mm Inquisitor player who hopes to one day restart that game with my buddies,I will probably pick up the game and a few boosters to convert into Inquisitor…which in my opinion was a great game for skirmishing.

Privateer4hire16 Mar 2008 5:08 a.m. PST

Was wondering if anyone was going to look at these with an eye toward Inquisitor.

nanite16 Mar 2008 2:09 p.m. PST

Anyone know where one could find the full set pictures online?

There seems to be a dearth of pictures of the actual minis.

Glenn M16 Mar 2008 2:37 p.m. PST

Yeah, they have posted just about crap about the game, the figure shots that are there certainly look nice (Except the Brotherhood, but they have a horribly clashy color scheme)

There should be a full set list by this point as well as at least a couple rules previews (See Road of Legend)

TheWarStore seems to have the best prices and shipping. Once you hack the prices down by almost 30% they even start getting in the reasonable range.

Glenn M16 Mar 2008 2:39 p.m. PST

Whoops, looking at the website they changed the Bortherhood color scheme to make it much more appealing.

The Beast Rampant16 Mar 2008 3:53 p.m. PST

"The movie has been coming for about as long as FFG has been promising release of this game."

Actually, the movie has been in development for a long, long time. I honestly thought it would remain in development hell forever, but I guess this is Pressman's baby. I can only hope that his years-in-utero opus turns out to better than Lucas's prequals, but I'm willing to bet sight unseen it will be!

Glenn M16 Mar 2008 4:07 p.m. PST

Actually, I have high hopes for the film. I remember everyone discussing the "trailer" and how bad it was. Then I discovered it was shot with a handful of crew over 3 days (I think), and if they managed that, than the final film shall be great indeed.

Oh yeah, for those whining about terrain, I was told the figures fit perfect on Heroscape hexes.

Zephyr116 Mar 2008 8:41 p.m. PST

"… so I will have to make all new terrain just for this. …"

Just play out in the yard. Instant jungles of Venus. If you got dirt, Mars. Piles of bricks, instant cityscape…. ;)

TwoGunBob17 Mar 2008 6:46 a.m. PST

Fits on a Heroscape board and will no doubt play like Heroscape as well.

Glenn M17 Mar 2008 5:58 p.m. PST

Then I am all over it, I love that game.
