Ii just got back from the New York Toy Fair. There was a small sampling of the World of Warcraft miniatures at the Alliance Games booth. You can check out my pics of that and Monsterpocalypse here – link As far as the games go, WoWCMG is played on a hex grid (which you can see in the photos). The goal is the acquisition of victory points. The points you need are based on the Honor Point total of the force that you bring to the table. The larger, more powerful the force, the more points you need to win. You gain victory points by laying the smack down on your opponents (victory points are equal to their honor points) or by occupying specific locations on the board. The game system is "tick" based. If you've ever played Exalted or Scion from White Wolf games then you have an idea of what I'm talking about. When you activate a character each of the actions that you might take have a time-cost (or tick) associated with it. So, if you activate on tick 1 and your action takes 4 ticks then you won't be able to activate that character again until tick 5. Any special ability cards that you use during your turn will tap. They remain tapped until tick 10, at which time everything resets. It's possible to customize your characters using cards. I don't know anything about how this works. I assume that the addition of cards adds to the honor point total of the figure, but that's just a guess. If anybody has any other questions I'll answer what I can. It was a short demo and not everything was done or explained. I'll post observations of Monsterpocalypse later. |

Thanks for the word. Looks like a rather small board, though
and I look forward to info on Monsterpocalypse. Thanks particularly for the pictures. |

I'll be waiting for those observations. I'm even more interested now that I have seen those pics. |

I only had about 15 minutes worth of Monsterpocalypse demo. I can give you the highlights though. The game is surprisingly deep. It looks light, but it's not. The basic idea is that it's a last monster standing game. Last one left alive wins. The main resource of the game is dice. You'll see the special dice in the pics. Each of the stars represent successes. You need a specific number of successes to hit your opponents (how many depends on who you attack). You also use the dice to activate units. So the more guys that you activate, the fewer dice you have to attack and such. It's a really interesting mechanic. The big monsters work from a different dice pool than the little guys. There's also a third pool of Power Dice that you can collect by occupying specific areas of the map as well as siphoning them from building (slowly, by standing near them, or more quickly by just leveling them). As you might expect from Privateer Press, there's a lot of complementary abilities that you can use to make an army more than just the sum of its parts. The little lizard guys had a special lizard guy that you could use to bump up the abilities of his allies. The monsters are obviously the showcase of the game. the neat thing about them is that while they come pre-packaged with the ability to level buildings and do significant damage to their enemies, you can also use those power dice that you collect to power them up. Each monster has something of an uber-form that they can transform into, giving them new powers. You can maintain that form by paying more power dice in subsequent turns. I really didn't have time to get a full look at what the game had to offer but it was clear that it was going to be pretty fast and fun, and yet not a particularly light game. I was expecting something targeted at the Pokemon/YuGiOh crowd and what we're getting is something that gamers will be able to sink their teeth into. It's also clear that the game isn't done yet. The guys in the booth were discussing abilities that they'd like to add to one of the monsters that doesn't yet exist – which leads me to believe that this one isn't completely nailed down yet. I'm really excited about the possibilities for both of these games. They both looked really good and the games played very well. |

Those buildings look very tempting for some Battletech or Mechwarrior DA games. Might be a bit large for 6mm Classic Battletech, much more useful for 10mm or maybe 15mm however. |

I'd have some of the WoW figures if they weren't collectable. |

If WoW is played on a hex grid, why didn't they make the figures on hex bases? And if facing doesn't matter due to the round bases, why a hex board? These kind of things drive me nuts. |

I'm really looking forward to Monsterpocalyse and intend to try and collect the whole set. I'm a HUGE fan of Kaiju which includes Godzilla,Gamera and Ultraman. So getting these figures would be very good also the buildings, vehicle's and other items could be used in a Godzilla game as well. Does anyone know more detail's as to when Monsterpocalyse will be released? Captain Gideon |

I am keen to see what Monsterpocalypse will play like. I hate the collectable aspect and will only buy singles off ebay
and I will make note not to buy those megafugly translucent ones. They look awful. The painted ones however look decent. Privateer Press really should release more info or risk this game slipping into obscurity. On the PP forums their communication has been very light on/not existant. I would be frustrated if I was a member posting on their forum. Hopefully this is the start of a stream of new info. Fingers crossed. The game has the potential to be great. Ben. |

i signed up for PP Monster newsletter
nada on that yet, and I've emailed them, twice now about any tidbit (especially on the saucer and tentacles) and nada response there either
of course, I've been 'ignored' by the best from the 'goose to wiz-ards/kids and even gw-ish types
mini-modeler resinators and more
so I don't take it too personally
after all, i am only a potential customer of a potential product with real money to spend when and if it actually happens

Disgruntled Goat, I imagine they're expecting a lot of sales from WoW players to use as display pieces, bot gaming pieces. For that purpose, round bases look better. In addition, counting hexes is easier than measuring ranges, so a hex map has its advantages even if facing is not important. Of course, becuase you're using a hex map, that means you don't need a hex base to indicate facing. All you need is something to indicate the front, and since almost all WoW minis will have a head, that takes care of that. :) |
