I'm looking for some suggestions for books on the Korean war. At the moment I'm mostly interested in the tactical level, details on specific battles and so on would be great! |

'Fortune Favours the Brave', about the Battle of the Hook. Can't recall the author. Battalion level defensive action. |

On this subject – how's "The Coldest Winter" by Halberstam? Hamilton Booksellers has it for $24, and I'm tempted. Doug |

"The River and the Gauntlet" by SLA Marshall provides good detail on the initial battles between the Eighth Army forces and the Chinese Communist Forces. It tends to be pretty grim in places, but presents some excellent ideas for scenarios. His later book "Pork Chop Hill" isn't quite as good in this regard. Another excellent account that can be used for scenario ideas is "East of Chosin" by Roy E. Appleman. Just started "The Coldest Winter" and find myself making comparisons between various "intelligence failures" (aka telling the boss what you "know" he wants to hear rather than the way it is). |
