I grew up in the midwest US. Sometime in the late 1960s/early 1970s I remember my parents buying me 2 packs of cowboys and indians. They came in a pastic bag like you see the current plastic toy figures come in.

The interesting thing is these figures were around 10-15mm in size. They were definitely much less than 25mm in side and probably closer to the 10mm size. I remember getting a crapload of them in the bag. I specifically remember most if not all of them were mounted.

Anyone remember these?

Now that you mention it…

Yeah, I had those. And you are right – virtually all mounted on spindly legged horses that didn't want to stand up.

The riders were separate pieces – pegs on their ankles held them in place.

What I can't remember is if the horses were uniformly brown or if they were varied colours. I seem to recall the figures were red and yellow.

Horses were brown yellow and white maybe?

I think the figures were red and yellow, but also blue?

I saw some several years at $Tree, didn't get any. They were roughly 1/72nd scale or smaller. Wish I had bought several bags now.

Craig I had forgotten that the horses wouldn't stand up but you are 100% right about that. Funny how you remember some things and forget others.

Yes, the pegs were the things I remember most.

I think the horses came in brown, black and white. They had legs that weren't 'round' (i.e. they were semi-circular).

I also seem to remember blue figures.

Mm-hm. Around 1/72 scale. Ankle pegs. Brown horses. Seems like I saw those for sale at some dime store or other not long ago…

Yeah, they're still around. They used to be made by Little Giant in Hong Kong, but have undoubtedly been cloned many times over the years. They pop up at Dollar Tree from time to time. I used some of the cowboys to make up a unit of Texas Cavalry for my plastic ACW army (I used different horses, though!)

The Giant plastics are what you remember. Definitely not that small though, more like 1/72nd scale.
