I've been trying to get into DBA for some time, but as i live no where near a club and spend mon-fri away from home and need to be hubby and dad at weekends I've failed. Then i found DBA On Line (DBAOL) dbaol.com Great! or so i thought. Having got the software up and running easily and signed up as a member i find that thats about it. I've issued a ton of challenges and in the 8+ weeks i've been online i've had only one gamer accept. That game is now in bound 7 after playing since before xmas! The turn around is so slow that there is almost no enjoyment in playing. So, what am i doing wrong? Is this a system that has a bad reputation and doesn't attract gamers? Is it mostly only used by friends who acxtually live next door and just use the PC to manage the fiddly movement and alignment rules in DBA? or what
? I've only ever been a fantasy and sci-fi gamer so this is me dipping my toe in the water of ancients for the first time and i'm rapidly going off the idea

Used to play myself and had a lot of games with a fast turn around sometimes playing multiple games in one night. Unfortunately DBAOL is based on version 1 of the rules and a lot of people drifted away and let their subscription lapse when there were no plans to update. If you can find a few regular players still out there you should enjoy it. |

As tonysilvs says it is not the DBA people play in person. Think of it it as a different DBA, like English Football compared to American Football. Perhaps English Football to Rugby. Go here to post your questions as I suspect more players are connected link It might be dying out. It was a terrific innovaton when it started around 2000; a very true internet version of a miniatures game. If they could have just made the conversion to the 2nd edition, there would be thousands playing today. The graphics are excellent. They translated Barkereese to binary so everything was understandable to the player. |

I used to play and enjoyed it a lot, but after a couple of thousand games had enough. The play and opponents were very good, but the lack of updates did irk after a while. Are you a paying subscriber / member? Challenges from free members are not very appealing as you can't finish a game. |

Challenges from free members are not very appealing as you can't finish a game I'm not sure what this means? although if it means i have to pay to subscribe to something which i'm not very sure about just to try it out, then its clearly broken. Also you'd think just one of the people i've challenged might have been gracious enough to say "hi" to a complete beginner
