What colours do people prefer for this? Something dull and greenish that fades into the table, or something bright and hard to miss?

And all the same, or colour code by side or for some other purpose?

I actually prefer four sided dice. They are unique enough to stand out, most stnads have 5ive or less castings, and they are not called for in many rules sets.

A less used die is the eight sided for the same reasons but they are not as unique looking as 4 sided die.

Clors? Red would be the basic choice though color by command or uniform is popular as well.

Colors can be used as a morale indicated as well as a casualty marker. For example red for Shattered, Blue for disrupted and white for good.

I like them bright and hard to miss. Especially if they are tiny.

We mostly use small, red d6 for hit markers. Can't miss them on the table and the red (danger) colour seems to intuitively emphasize the fact that more red dice = bad things happening to your unit.

Heh, nothing like watching the frustrated look on the British player's face when my Bismark limped off the table trailing a string of seven red d6 behind it.
(had 41 out of max 43 damage showing on it)

I use red, black and white. Red is normally for hits.

Tend to use brightly colored 16mm dice with the numbers on them to denote hits (whereas I use 16mm pipped dice for rolling results.)
