I've been doing a lot of Japanese Army Air force lately. Here are some Oscar Is of, respectively, the 1st, 11th, 25th, 33rd, 50th and 64th sentais:

As far as paints, I wish I could be more sophisticated, but I use basically Tamiya Color water-based acrylics: XF-13 and XF-14, J.A. green and J.A. grey, respectively.
For the earlier aircraft, the Oscar I's for example, I don't worry too much; m has been said about Japanese using captured paints manufactured locally to match the American (see: Brewster) version of British paints. Ya know?
I do lay down an oil-based silver or aluminum first to be revealed when the water-based paint is chipped off to whatever degree.
