Starting to get back into naval gaming after some time spent with Piquet and Bag the Hun. Have played Command at Sea for years but now it seems too fiddly for me. Love the command and control rules and the critical hit table. Pulled out Avalance Press GWAS and with the optional tactical rules the combat is good but can't figure out numbers for WW II plus I would have to figure out how to retro in the command rules, scale for my ships and critical hit table form CAS. ( Love losing a turret as a critical hit) How does GQ III compare with CAS? Don't play huge actions but will normally have 6-10 ships per side. Play 75% solitaire as well. Tried to find quick start rules called "flank speed" but they are not on the site. Thanks for all help and suggestions. Joe |

GQ III is ideal for the size engagement you describe. The one game of CAS I played that size was more time consuming and book referential, even for the experienced player I faced. |

GQ3 is less complex than CAS by a fairly significant factor. For me, GQ3 can run at up to 20+ ships per side comfortably which is about double that of CAS. If you'd describe yourself as a rivet counter though, you'd enjoy CAS. |

Thanks for the info. Does the damage routine have critical hits? Do they have individual turrets taken out? Can you figure out strengths of new ships or is it vague like GWAS? Thanks Joe |

@Joe
I have Flank Speed. When I stumbled upon it I copied it into a word document (it's all of two pages). If you want it, email me at Seattlered (at) aol (dot) com and I'll be happy to reply to you with it attached. Steve |

GQIII will also cost you a lot less dough. The CAS volumes are numerous, and while very extensive, are expensive too. |

GQ3 has critical hits as well as a damage allocation system in which individual turrets are knocked out. |

Thanks for all the info. Recieved "flank speed" from Seattle gamer. Not a quick play at all but a talk through. It appears to be a watered down CAS that uses D12. I don't even have a D12. Has anyone played VAS? That seems closer to GWAS but with the critcal hits in there. Could I buff it up with all the data I have form CAS? Thanks again for all the info Joe |

Thanks for the suggestion. Will either get Grand Fleets or VAS Joe |
