I posted a thread on a problem I am having with Troll and Toad last week TMP link

I have exchanges some emails with them asked why they processed my $500 USD order and are now holding my $12 USD order!

Today I got this!

Dear James X. XXXXXX:

Your order is now ready to begin the security queue procedure. We have placed a small charge on your credit card, an amount far less than the order total. This charge is not in addition to the cost of your order. This amount will eventually be deducted from your order total once your order is processed through the security queue (for example: Your order total is $100.00 USD and the security queue charges $2.50, when you clear the security queue, you will only be additionally charged $97.50 USD as the $2.50 USD has been applied to your order).

You need to contact your bank or credit card company to determine the amount that was charged. You can reach them at the phone number on the back of your credit card. You should then inquire if Troll and Toad has placed a charge on your card, and if so, in what amount. Be sure to ask for this amount in US Dollars, if you have a foreign bank or credit card company. If they cannot provide the amount in US Dollars, you can visit xe.com to convert the charge into US Dollars (USD).

If they are not able to tell you the amount of the charge, instead get the name of the bank official and his direct phone number, so we can call him to verify your shipping address.

After finding out the charge to your credit card in US dollars, go to the following security verification page to enter in this information. After entering this information, we will send you an email to tell you if you are approved.

If this link doesn't work, you can log into your account on our website, go to "View Current Or Old Orders", and click on your current order to enter this information.

If you're still unable to enter this information, please contact us for more information or assistance.

Thank you,
Troll And Toad

P.S.
Please note you must enter the above information within 5 days or we will have no choice but to cancel your order.

What a friggin pain in the butt for a $12.00 USD order.

I WILL NOT BE USING THEM IN THE FUTURE!

James,

I seem to recall others talking about this in the past.

Might be worth a search.

Man…I hate when they start using crazy math with my money too. I recently cancelled a credit card because they charged us for statements (printed) that we should've gotten online in the first place. Tried talking to the "customer service" rep; it would've been better with an automated answering service. Your bottomline is basically the result. v/r, Dean

This is the same method of verifcation that PayPal use but it doesn't seem to take as long as you describe nor have as many steps.

Yes, ditto on the PayPal, but it is so painless with them.

Ha to make matters worse I went to my account and they charged me twice! Two different amounts. I entered BOTH in the verification form, and it did not accept it. Told me I had ONE more attempt. So I emails, called and left a message, and then went back to the verifciation page and entered only the last charge (one was $4.65 USD the other $4.23) Both on the 24th.

YES you got it I entered the wrong one according to them!
Got a nice automatic messages that the order was CNX!

Got to love it…

Contest the charges with your credit card company. This forces the vendor to have to deal with you.

Man, this company must have something truly fabulous to make you jump through all of these hoops to get it.

mandt227 Jan 2008 11:37 a.m. PST

I read the letter and am dumber for it.

I've ordered through Troll and Toad fairly recently. No problems at all but I paid through Paypal.

roflmao… we had a vendor at work give us this run-around a few weeks ago. Came complete with a bunch of officialese notes like the junk they sent you. I called them and said, "Why? After two years, do we need to verify for you a corporate card that has seen thousands and thousands of dollars charged to it without a hitch?" The answer? "To increase your security with us for payment."

I'm not even sure what that answer even meant. So, I translated it as, "We don't really want your business." and I hung up.

I've seen similar with other internet companies apparently fraud is just out of hand. But it always just meant waiting a couple days to a week.
