This is a link to the latest of my naval works. If anyone can assist with the signal the ship is flying, I would appreciate it. I looked it up in a 1937 volume of Nicholls seamanship for merchant mariners, but I'm not sure if its correct.
Black ball for stationary. Square red flag for submarine in sight. Blue diagonal cross on white for 'stand clear'…or for picking up survivors.

The work itself depicts the sinking of U131 (Type IXC) by aircraft and escorts of the convoy HG76 on the morning of December 17th 1941. The first escort carrier HMS Audacity is in the left background. HMS Stanley (herself sunk a few days later) is standing by in the right close background.

The work is Acrylic on canvas.
