For Ancients, Pulp, VSF and SF gaming involving Egyptians I can only think of the following : Stargate (1994) The Mummy (1999) The Return of the Mummy (2001) Do you have any other recommendations for movie soundtrack CDs? Thanks. CC |

Cleopatra, a great Alex North soundtrack. |
Judas Iscariot | 29 Dec 2007 2:54 a.m. PST |
I always liked the soundtrack to The Ten Commandments |
John Bear Ross | 29 Dec 2007 3:09 a.m. PST |
Black Hawk Down? Gladiator? Kingdom Of Heaven? While not "period-correct," Ridley Scott seems to love Middle Eastern themes and locations. His soundtracks might fit the bill. Best, John Bear Ross johnbearross.com |

One of my favourite soundtracks of all time is Peter Gabriels' The Temptation of Christ. It has a lot of Middle Eastern flavour, besides tons of great atmosphere. I have used it for settimg the mood in several games. |

Just chekked up the facts: The movie is called The LAST Temptation of Christ, by Martin Scorsese. The Soundtrack is called Passion, by Peter Gabriel. |

The original music (as opposed to the '30s jazz music used in the film – although pretty good)for The English Patient – conjures up the desert for me. |

Some that I have are:- "She and the Vengeance of She" (Hammer Film Production) "The Egyptian" (Herrman & Newman) "The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb" (Hammer Film Production) "Blood from the Mummy's Tomb" (Hammer Film Production) "The Mummy" (Hammer Film Production) "The Mummy" "The Mummy Returns" Some other possibilities on CD "Lawrence of Arabia" "Land of the Pharaohs" (Dimitri Tomkin) "La Fille du Pharaon" aka The Pharaoh's Daughter "Sound of Mystery: Pharaoh 2" |

How about the opera Aida? That was the first thing that pops into my mind. |
Plynkes | 29 Dec 2007 6:17 a.m. PST |
How about the opera Aida? I agree. And so do the Egyptian Tourist Board, as they always use it in one form or another in their adverts on telly here. |

I might also suggest anything by the black metal band "Nile". "In their darkened shrines" CD has a couple of good instrumentals that go with my Tomb Kings. |
Sue Kes | 29 Dec 2007 7:00 a.m. PST |
I'd definitely say "Land of the Pharaohs". Very atmospheric. |
Steve Hazuka | 29 Dec 2007 7:22 a.m. PST |
The Wind and the Lion, nice soundtrack. Not Egyptian but very desert like Larry of Araby. |
Alxbates | 29 Dec 2007 8:00 a.m. PST |
Anything by the black metal band "Nile". |

ElGrego | 29 Dec 2007 10:25 a.m. PST |
Maybe Steve Martin's 'King Tut' could be added in also |
Judas Iscariot | 29 Dec 2007 10:42 a.m. PST |
Come to think of it
Although The Ten Commandments has a very "Epic" (Lagre.. No! HUGE!) feel to it; sweeping away all before it
But
The Passion of Christ (The Soundtrack by Gabriel forThe Last Temptation of Christ) has a definiely "Otherworldly" or alien-ness to it that seems to be VERY Egyptian. |

Not a movie soundtrack as such, but the compiled game soundtrack for the Prince of Persia video games might also appeal. |

CC, my suggestion would be the Prologue and main title from the movie adaptation of 'Dune'. Other than these two, plus the the ending theme ('Take My Hand'), I don't know how the rest of the soundtrack sounds like. Sounds like an interesting project you have going, CC. |

You are missing--by far!--the best "Hollywood Egyptian" music of all if you don't get your copy on CD of the Soundtrack to "The Egyptian." An unusual collaboration between two of the best film composers ever, Alfred Newman and Bernard Herrmann, the themes here are particularly moody and frankly erotic, with a number of martial themes, including a particularly fine Pharaonic victory march. Go to link for both available recordings. The more expensivie one is the limited edition original soundtrack restored, with virtually every cue. Outstanding! You can even hear some samples. The cheaper recording is new, not as good, and has about half the music--but it's still better than anything else you will find. If you'll shop around on Amazon, you may find the same recording on Amazon for cheaper. And I agree that getting the Dmitri Tiomkin score to "Land of the Pharaohs" will work like a charm for you, too. TVAG |

@tabletopwarrior Where would you find the soundtrack for The Wind and the Lion? I've been looking for that by Jerry Goldsmith for some time now and all I find is it's long OOP. And it's not very Egyptian sounding but now that I think about it more it is appropriate. Alexander by Vangelis |
