I finally found the RIGHT combination of colors to mimic the dreaded ACU pattern!

And for 15mm it comes out quite nicely!

So I am happy and proud to say that pics of my batch of Rebel Minis US Special Forces in ACU's and mismatched gear, (thanks Uncle Sam), are up and posted on the Bongolesia Blogsite.

A mix of Vallejo and Folk Art…

Good job, ya nailed it. The ACU pattern has got to be one the most frustrating schemes to get right.

Actually it's quite easy once you know HOW….

The b***h is finding the colors that match…

I primed with grey Krylon..good old Wally World comes through again!

Did a base coat with Vallejo "Deck Tan" which is more gray than tan…

Then did a VERY VERY light first coat/wash with Folk Art#467 Italian Sage…

Then I went back and did a very very light drybrush "dab/speckle" with Vallejo US Dark Green.

Then I went back once again and did ANOTHER very light drybrush of the Italian sage, ALMOST completely (but not quite) eliminating the dark green, (just enough to be seen and break up the pattern). I then did a highlight (very light) drybrush with Vallejo Game Color "Stonewall Grey", but honestly, you don't even need to do that.
After that it's weapons (black), OD colors for the gear, Khaki for the boots, and flesh for the flesh…
A little brown for dirt, and weathering, and done!

I'm hoping that these few rough notes will help us 15mm modern guys get our troops out of BDU's and into ACU's…with a lot more painting ease.

My next project will be the USMC Woodland MARPAT…
