The Xyston ones look great: link However, are there other manufacturers of Punic Wars biremes, triremes, etc., in that general scale? Thanks. CC PS. I'm thinking that, while doing the land action with 28mm figures (using WAB), something could be done on the sea side with micro type scales. What do you think? |

Look no further than Romanseas romanseas.com/index.html which sell a range of fleets in PDF format which you can print out and make in virtually any scale. If they have to be metal, Skytrex also make some, I believe, in a larger scale. As does Langton. |

Langston (1/900?) does a smaller line that are highly detailed. Valliant does a line in 1/1200 that is very good. Navwar also does 1/900 that are okay. There is another line that I saw at Historicon but do not remember name this morning. They are I think also 1/900 or so. 15mm Old Glory, same for 25mm. VR James Mattes |

I do have some Langton 1/1200 ships, they are very nice, though quite small as 1/1200. I also have the Hotz colour pdf ships. These are very nice and of course are much bigger than the metal ships. MAin problem is it is a real pain cutting out and assembling the darned things. I reckon the Xyston ones look like the best bet to me, main problem with them seems to be the price

Langton does some terrific 1/1200 with great detail while Navwar's 1/1200 line is a good deal less costly but suffers in comparison from a detail perspective. Valiant has a nice 1/900 range that is comparable in price to Langton. If you wanted/needed large numbers, I believe Tumbling Dice has a 1/2400 Ancient range that is very reasonable but very small. |

Langton do some 1/300 galleys (trireme and quinquereme and maybe a couple of others), as well as their (much larger variety) range in 1/1200. Cheers, Martin

Langton and Navwar are 1/1200, Valiant's are 1/900. I believe Valiant has a sale going on now. |

If you email them they might let you in under the wire! As for scale yes I inverted the two. I should not be allowed on TMP before coffee in the morning. I still have to find the list for the other company but the figures looked nice. I have not seen the Langton 1/300 series. Is there a link with images? VR James Mattes |

"I should not be allowed on TMP before coffee in the morning." You're not the only one. It's a rule I often violate, to my subsequent sorrow. Langton 1:300 pics: link Trireme pics: link Descriptions: link Allen |

Gulp! $36 USD bucks plus for a 150mm Kit? I think I will stick with PDF Roman Seas. While I like Langton and Xyston a whole bunch $36 USD bucks makes me think twice. Not sure they are within my price range for the scale. VR James Mattes |

Warrior Miniatures do some pretty good ships to get started, cheap too. A starter pack of 6 ships will set you back a tenner and they are robust to play with unlike xyston which are prone to falling to bits regularly. Unfortunately they only do Quins', Decares and Triremes but they are compatible with other manufacturesr includin xyston. |

CinC miniatures used to make a nice line of 1/1200 scale Ancient galleys, but they discontinued it. I was lucky enough to find some on line. |

SKYTREX do 1/600, just to clarify |
| Altius | 04 Feb 2008 1:23 p.m. PST |
I recently bought some of the Skytrex 1/600s. The smaller ships, such as the Liburnae and the Pentaconters look kinda rough, but the bigger ships, such as the Quinqeremes and Hexeres look good next to my Xystons. The oarbanks look slightly different, but not too noticeable. The sails, however, are way different, with the Skytrex sails looking puny next to the Xyston sails. I build my ships with the masts unshipped, so that's not really an issue for me, but you might want to buy some separate Xyston sails so they all match, if you're into the whole sail thing. The nice thing (to me) about mixing the Xystons with the Skytrex is that it gives you a greater variety of ship designs, and they blend well with one another. |
