Picked this up at the airport for reading whilst on holiday for a week. It gives a comic look at the history of Britain from ancient times to 1945, which doubtless as avid historians you'll all know, but it is well done and funny (I thought so anyway), and does have some interesting snippets that I'd not known before.

It's not too intense (as it is all in the 1 book) and looks at why Britain is where it is today and how it got there. It focuses on the crass stupidity of those in charge down the ages, from Kings of the dark ages and their squabbles down to Chamberlain and the piece of paper.

Sounds like a little less tongue-in-cheek than Sellar and Yeatman, "1066 And All That". Now, that is a hoot; even the bits I didn't get, post WOTR mainly: which motivated me to read Winnie's, "A History of the English-Speaking Peoples", so that I would get the humor for the later chapters.
