trying to find the right shade of blue for my ship bases and have not found it yet, so far – (all vallejo)deep sky blue. too disneyish. ultramarine – too purplish. deep sea blue tooo dark. I liked the look of CPT. JAKE,s 1/3000 Davco ww11 ship bases so any suggestions gratefully received as always, thanks in advance Ivan.

Add a little grey-green to the deep sky blue.

I use the deep sea blue but highlight it with luftwaffe blue. You may want to try starting out with the LW blue.

Get some of the Vallejo Water Effects gels. Nice colours that dry transluscent with waves. They come in four colours for different seas/oceans.

The trouble is that sea colour varies from ocean to ocean and weather condition to weather condition.

I purchased an Atlantic sea base mat for my tabletop, plus a Pacific one. But also have some boards painted in various shades to represent other areas and conditions.

For my ships I solved the entire thing by simply mounting them on clear plastic bases. I paint the wake onto the clear plastic.

Then regardless of which 'ocean' colour board or mat I am using, the ships always match! grin
