I was just enjoying a bit of web nostalgia today and remembered Jim Wright's former yahoo group, Jimland. Though I was never extensively into Victorian Sci Fi, Jim's game and rules and especially battle reports (adventure journals) were so enjoyable I really missed them. I remember he ended the group rather abruptly and without explanation simply asking anyone who wanted any of the files to get them before he shut it down. Then it was gone. Does anyone know why? What has become of old Jim and Jimland?

Also, for those who are curious or never got the rules and reports in time I fortunately found a site that has them archived here:

Thanks NAGS for preserving this piece of miniature web history!

Two theories about Jim and his fate:

Jim works for the CIA and had to close things down on short notice as he was deployed to a global hot spot….. Think Charlie Wilson on a smaller scale.

Alternately, Jim is an alien from the Quaandaar galaxy and was called home by The Imperium to report on the activities of the earthlings. He has returned to earth, but has neer been the same since being on the wrong (or was it Wright) side of "the probe."

deanoware,

Here are the answers to you questions.

Why? Lost in the mists of time.

What? The consensus is for a combination of Gray Bear's theories. His identity as Jason Bourne blown, the alien returned home in disgrace to face(?) the probe. As
correctly surmised, he was never the same afterward.

I hear he is still alive, living quietly to avoid the press.

His favorite things are free money and cheap women. He still paints miniatures, 15mm of late, and dabbles in writing short stories. He seldom games after his experience with the probe. Rumor has it he is trying to start again.

Jimland is still alive and well, being played by numerous people, well at least two I know of. A caveman version was written for the caveman game yahoo group whose name escapes me at the moment. The GASLIGHT variant had a tiny thread lately here on TMP. So keep exploring. There are still far horizons to cross.

Mr Gray Bear,
You are up very early this morning. Are you going to respond to the super-secret email sent 2007-12-12?

Mr. Gephart,
Thank you for the heads up. Just hadn't gotten here yet today. Are you going to respond to the super-secret email sent 2007-12-12?

Mr. Revere,
I know you are out there, lurking. Are you going to respond to the super-secret email sent 2007-12-12?

Ever Forward.

That's what he would say.

Jim,
Can you re-send me the "Super-Secret e-mail" My copy self-destructed talking a couple of other e-mails with it when I tried to do a really cleaver computer thing. Perhaps it triggered the super-secret destruct code you embeded in the message.

I'm with Grey Bear. Jim returned to the Imperium for punishment.

I think the guy who responded under "Jim Wright" above is false. Notice he ended with "That's what he would say." Sounds suspicious to me. It is a ruse. A conspiracy! I will publish a short tome on this theme shortly but can't until the evesdropping devices are removed from my computer.

I liked the theory I came up with shortly after he shut it down better..

Let's just stick with that.
