The title says it all really.
I'd like to look at some simple WW2 naval rules and these two seems to be generating most hits on my searches.

Can anybody point me to on-line reviews – especially ones which compare the two sets. (I've tried, but found nothing).

Otherwise, would anybody (Preferably disinterested parties) be prepared to chip in with a quick comparison.

Gratefully

I'd say they are two very different approaches to simplicity. BS/BS uses 30 minute turns and aggregates damage into essentially 4 states, hit but still fully functional, damaged and half effective, virtually crippled and sunk. VAS is more of traditional 5 minute turns with simplified mechanics but more of the traditional shoot, damage etc.

VAS is also more traditional in that 20+ ships per side is a big game whereas BS/BS really begins to come into its' own in really big fleet sized games.

VAS also uses a "handful of dice" for combat resolution. BSBS uses a single D20 per vessel firing – roll to hit and if you hit, roll again for effect. BSBS is more for larger battles and VAS is intended more for smaller battles of approx. 10-12 ships per side. Damage bookkeeping is required for VAS, but a single damage state chit for each damaged vessel is all that is necessary for vessels in BSBS.

Thanks for those replies. Areas where I've found WW2 Naval rules usually struggle are air-atacks and torpedo attacks.

Could anybody comment on either of those aspects of each rules set?
