Found a new cheap base for making sci-fi buildings. Found them in the local walmart for less than $1. USD I grabbed on but it's still filled with wet paint so I couldn't take a proper pic. I couldn't find a proper pic but here is the item link Here is a short video about the item
shows it flipped over so you can see it. link It just has a nice shape and seems to be a really good base to add to my other buildings. |

Dropzone, I bought a stack of them for just such a purpose. One of these days I'll put them to good use. They really make INSTANT buildings! CC |

Great idea. I'll have to put my builders to work making an offworld suburban development out of these for "Attack on Colonial Springs". |

Small disposable paint trays. Every time I need some for the endless home renovation, I buy a few extra to use as sci-fi buildings. Somehow they all get absorbed into the endless home renovation. |

Here is a quick scale pic I took if anyone is interested. I plan on using drywall tape in the construction of this in stead of the granny grating. picture

dropzonetoe, like Cacique Caribe did above, I have a batch of those same ones. I think I got mine at my local Home Depot. I also have round ones that I sourced at Ace Hardware, so you might take a look there. Finding these was a spinoff of just walking through various home improvement store ailes with my "sci-fi goggles" on, lol. Not really of course, but rather vitually speaking. |

Trust me
My goggle are on almost all the time. Best thing is my wife has second hand goggles. She has been keeping interesting bits of garbage for me for years now. |

I had to tell my friends to stop or at least slow down on getting me their plastic bits and styro packing shapes, as I didn't have the space anymore to store them, lol. I'll be eventually making a "colony town" using items like those paint pail inserts, plastic electrical boxes and a few other shapes. Last year I was going to use them in a gaming mag article but I got diverted by other things. Here is a pic of another colony outpost that I did end up making, using metal air vents and PVC fittings. It was serendipity that the domes I had fit the vents well. picture picture |

Sorry if I gave the impression that I ever took my goggles off. I sleep with them on. |

How did you make the alien trees? |
Dropzonetoe | 13 Dec 2007 8:00 a.m. PST |
DCP, Very nice stuff there. I think the trees are some sort of dried seed pods. |

Yes, the "alien cactus" is made from dried Mahogony seed pods, found at many craft stores. I cut off all but an inch or so of the long stick they come on and attached that to a base made from paper mache and "tiger" patterned yarn. They are one of my favorite terrain features, as they can be used as either "innocent" exo-trees or as vertical 'body-snatcher' style pods. |

DCP I really like those colony buildings and the pods.Well done. |
