The Sahel project is nearing production. Here is an edited copy of a letter that I included in a reveiw packet being sent to selected distributors. Upon request i can send copies of the greens that were used.

There are two small bags with sealed slots.

One slot has the umbrella which I may have to have redone to hollow with a wire pole + a triangular flag + a banner. These would be included with the mounted and foot bearers.

Middle Slot has an open handed mounted bearer but is open handed so a wire spear could be used to make him a bodyguard retainer.

The other slot has two mounted castings. One has a heater shield and cloth horse bard. It represents the Songhai and later Moslem Armies. The other no shield/ weapon casting is the General.

The second package has four slots with the warriors numbered.
1. It has an open hand and no shield. This is a multi purpose casting. It can be a standard bearer OR an officer OR a foot general with a large walking cane/ quarterstaff added 9the larger the staff the higher rank the leader) OR even a Pagan Warrior with a spear or javelin added.
2. This is an urban city-state warrior with an almond/ teardrop shield and a spear.
3. This is a pagan or tribal warrior with a javelin and a round shield.

The slot with three horsemen are numbered:
4. A warrior with no shield and on a puny native African horse. This represents the early Ghana and Pagan and tribal horsemen.
5. The middle horseman is a horseman on a un-barded horse with fringed leather harness. It represents tribal, pagan bodyguards and later Ghana and early Mali horsemen. A Spear and urban almond shield.
6. The horsemen on the cotton padded barded horse with an almond shield and large turban represents the Bornu city states to the East of Mali-Songhai.
7. The single warrior in a slot is on a richly armored horse with a metal front. it represents Hansa City States or rich retainers from the other states or even a General for Pagan tribes.

The slot with four foot warriors slide in the position I n the slot.
8. This is my least favorite. A double armed warrior with a sword and bow. I left him without a shield so he can be Pagan, tribal or Urban.
9. He has a round shield and sword only so he is a tribal or pagan levy foot.
10. An archer who is heavily robed so is an urban or Moslem regular soldier. He can be used as elite archers for city states or tribal guards.
11. Levy urban foot with a sword and almond shield. Another multi-use casting.

Hey Rudy….would these match up well with the Eureka miniatures range? I would love to add them for pose variety and to fill the many holes in their line…but I do love their barded horse figures and their light horsemen with that funny looking double-bladed sword!

Eureka tend to be large 18mm, so I am not sure. These are more on the Essex and my Korean I financed) range that Quartermaster produces (based to scale on the Mongols)
