Has anyone ordered these? Your opinion about them would be appreciated. I am looking to order a mat and its between Hotzmat and MondayKnight. Tho i saw quite a few positive messages on the boards about the Hotzmats I haven't seen anything about the mats offered by MondayKnight.

Thanks

I have four 1.5" hex mats from MondayKnight (I think the first I got back when it was Geohex). I have the seascape, plus green, tan and space mats. The sea mat is nice, I am like the look of it but it is just a pattern that may or may not to your eye remind you of the sea. I believe they have a decent picture on their website. The mat is 4'x'6 has held up to normal use then rolling and some folding with no problems. Everything on all four mats was perfect (at least to my eye). I received the mats in a reasonable amount of time, not overly fast or slow. I'm not sure what else I can say.

I have an MKP seascape (no hexes) and it has held up for two years of use without problems. I also have a couple of the Terrain Mat seascapes as well and am quite happy with those. I have no experiemce with the Hotz mats but do not recall anyone with quality issues there either.

I saw I think the sea scape mat from them at Fall In. I was very impressed with the quality of the product.

I have had the MKP seascape with 1.5" hexes and it worked fine. Mine was a bit more blue-green than I thought the sea might be. I also have Hotz (land, not sea) and they are nice. Both have suffered rough handling from gamers and no damage has been done.

Hotz has had some service issue lately. I'd say his way of marking hexes (solid line in a subdued colour) is subtler than the MKP mat I had (dotted lines in a contrasting colour). That would likely decide it for me, but you might want to email ric and see how your level of sevrice is before sending any money.

Dang Blast it!!!

I forgot all about the Zardoz discount, and I placed an order several weeks back for some roads. Ah well, live and learn.

And to continue on with the thread, I have four MKP mats, all 4x6, none with hexes (sea, green & tan earth, and black star mat). Have had them for maybe 6-8 years now. Probably bought them back when they were made by GeoHex, but I know MKP use the exact same equipment and components because they bought out GeoHex to get it.

Anyway, all mats have served me very well without issue. I routinely spread the black star mat out on my 4x6 gaming table star face down to give me a black felt gaming surface when we play board games. And because the black mat doesn't have the same starchy stiffener, you might think it wears out faster since it gets way more use than my other mats.

Not so, still going strong after all thease years. And makes a dandy tabletop cover for games like Descent or Doom or Warhammer Quest, where your gaming tiles get spread out all over the place. The felt helps keep things in place.

I do have ONE ISSUE with my MKP mats, and only one. Just so you know, if you store your mats in a shed and, say, rats get into the shed, and get into the box where they are stored, and decide, oh, I don't know, to chew up part of a mat to make a nice little comfy, cozy nest … your mat is going to suffer damage.

So if you were hoping that the flock and/or the binding spray would somehow "repel" vermin … you are mistaken.

As luck would have it, this particular rat was especially fond of the aqua-colored sea mat (which has seen the least action), and on top of that, he actually picked a spot really close to a corner. So if I place a small island over that spot, nobody will notice!

I'm glad he did that, instead of chewing a huge hole in the center of, say, the much used green or even more frequently used black mat!

Yep, I have two on order with them now. I'll post after I get them but they certainly looked great at the con.

One thing I have a [minor] issue with is logos printed on the front of the mat. I think MKP does this – we noticed it while gaming at a friends one night – don't know if Hotz does this as well.

I have not received my Hotz western town map as of yet, but yes, he does this as well in one of the corners.

My GeoHex/MKP mat logos have text that fits into a 1" x 4" spot in a corner. Noticable, but not eye-catching. And placing the smallest bit of terrain in that corner would totally cover it.

Don't know how large the text area is on Hotz mats, but I'm thinking it's larger (just from looking at photos online of his mats).

Thanks all for the feed back. ALso thanks to MondayKnight about reminding us about the TMP discount. Glad to hear they are durable and long lasting (and can be used to feed the mice if needed--but I wont be doing that!)

I have a sea mat from Monday knight. The pattern you will either like or hate. I like it as it looks like water without being monotonous. The picture on the web site is a good representation. I ordered another matt from them about 3 months ago. They stalled me for 5 weeks and then I finally asked to cancel my order. They were nice about it though.
Ordered the european fields mat from Hotz last week. Looks great on the pictures and is not monotonous for my air battles.
I would call MKP before you order and ask how long will it really take.
Thanks

Joe

I have one, it's hard wearing and usable.
I'll be back for more if I require something squared or hexed for land or air.

I'll say now that I can't imagine any may surface looking like the sea does from an aircraft or a hillside.

This gives a representative mix of blue-green which serves as an ocean for me.
