I guess I just don't get what you or the designer is driving at. In fairness I have purchased a copy of Campaigner but have yet to receive it. Just the same, I thought Campaigner would allow you to conduct a campaign via the internet with others. If that is the case? Why would you want to do this solo? mjc |

Help I would want to solo as well. Currently working with paper and maps and this looks to good to miss. |

I'm working on a solo campaign myself so any product that would help in design would be great. I'm incorporating not only production and combat, but diplomacy, world conditions, natural disasters etc. It is designed for long term solo play. |

Personally, I feel a good solo game would be a great addition to the hobby. Of course, there's not much to top gaming with flesh and blood opponents, but actually finding some can be a hassle most of the time (at least in my neck of the woods – I'm still trying to recruit my father, hehe). I say go for it! :) |

I've had a look at the website, and to be honest it looks like a lot of hard work. Selecting waypoints for each unit etc takes time, it does not seem to be software for managing a campaign but is more like campaign movement base on the RTS computer type games. I wonder just how adaptable a system this will be? Will it be able to cover ancient to WW2? |

I can field the questions concerning Campaigner as it currently exists, Underwood. Campaigner manages resources, units and movement as well as customizable rules and installations
. objectives and victory conditions. It is not meant to be a solo system, but it can still be used that way (in the same way you can solo a game of chess). Anyway, the movement system is not real time, but simultaneous turns, and setting waypoints is one of the easiest parts of playing. As far as SOLO goes, there's going to be a lot of discussion (and probably name-calling too! heh heh) before anything is officially announced. Currently, our coding focus is on our next project, Virtual Tabletop and we have a lot of development and such to do before any code is written for a solo system. Just to make it clear: we'd LOVE to do a solo campaign system and have some great ideas about it. All we need to do is finish our current project and see where a solo project fits in terms of time/money investment and available time. I'll tell you this, though, our current design philosophy is to create systems for ANY period and any solo project we tackle will be designed to be used with any period/scale. This means certain things will probably be somewhat abstract, but that's the price of flexibilty. As terrement said, the place for discussion about it is definately in the Yahoo Solo Wargames group. We poke our heads in there every now and then. You can also post on our forum at racingspidergames.com. |
