Does anyone know what the right scale is to convert vehicle models to 28mm TTG's? Is it 1:48 or 1:35 or neither? |

There was a poll on this a week or two back. 1:35 is probably way too big. |

There is a trend nowadays that 1/56th scale is the best match for 28mm. But 1/48 fits fine. 1/35 is way too big. |

Shame as walmart is starting to sell a line of 1/35 WWII stuff. |
ordinarybass | 29 Oct 2007 10:48 a.m. PST |
I've used both to good effect. I have some 1/35 m113's that look great, and I've used some 1/48th size airplane kits in scenery. Here's a m113 as a Razorback. picture Sorry that it's not much of a scale comparison, but you can see the marine in the hatch. I think that of the two scales 1/48th is usually ideal, but It all depends on how big a tank you want. |

It really depends. Some 1/35 stuff is ok for 40K type models. Ordinarybass shows a very nice example. I had used some 1/35 scale SdKfz 221s for my Bauhaus Warzone faction way back when. These days I mostly use a lot of 1/48 for larger 28mm WWII and Sci-fi figures. |

I use only 1/56 stuff, but the 1/48-1/50 scales are fine if that's what looks right to you. It's all just a matter of what floats your boat. Or tank, as the case may be! 8)= |

with Void and Copplestone, 1/48 AFVs make good medium tanks. For GW 1/35 can work well. The main issue seems to be the size of hatches, etc. Its easy to cover these up, etc. You will generally have to mod or replace the machine guns, etc
but you were probably going to do that for the kitbash anyway :) It depends on how you like your war machines. I like cumbersome artillery and fast medium tanks. My artil and supply tend to be 1/35 and my tanks 1/48. For air support
planes are huge and hard to get onto the table with most rules anyway. Nothing larger than 1/48 there unless I am kitbashing some sort of interface lander. A 1/35 Hind or such might work for the skeleton of such a project. |

I like the 1/56th scale myself. |

If you plan to use a vehicle to represent itself (an M113 being used as an M113) with 28mm figures, 1/48th is fine. If you plan to kitbash a 28mm scale vehicle, 1/35 is suitable (e.g. taking a 1/35th scale M113 and making into an alternative Rhino as shown above). Hatch sizes and step heights are what you should look for. Taking bitz (hatch covers, field gear, seats, pintel mounted guns, etc.) from existing 1/48th or 28mm scale models will help reinforce that feeling of scale. You can basically take a 1/35th scale light tank and turn it into a fictional 28mm heavy tank in this manner. |

Unless your SF figures are GW, of the two choices 1:48 is better. 1/48 looks particularly good if you use the plastic bases. If you use washers etc for basing the 1:56 look better. The 1:64 'TRUE 28mm scale' looks freakishly small. |

1/285th scale is 6mm. 12mm would be about 1/142, 24mm would be about 1/72nd scale, 48mm would 1/35th scale. I hope this helps. |

Prime example: ccglazier has an auction right now that shows 28s with 1/48 vehicles: auction |

Ki-Tech 1/48 baby! (Tamiya 1/48 is way to expensive) |

I have never heard of 'anyone' making 1/56 scale models, but it seems generally accepted that 1/48 works best for 28mm miniture gaming. However, *Nazrat makes a great point.. "if it looks good to YOU.. then its good for your game. |

I think there are a fair number of 1/56 moderns suitable for historical 28mm. 1/48 works if your figures are very heroic. 1/35 works if you like GW and very very heroic (ie 35mm tall models in football pad armour). As has been said, hatch sizes are important. If your width across the shoulders has been doubled by the costume you are wearing, you are going to need a vehicle with big enough internal dimensions to fit crew and passengers (if it's an APC) and with big enough doors and hatches to egress from. For GW figures, 1/35 sounds like a good bet. John T |

Among modelers 1/48th id known as quarter scale, as a quarter of an inch is one foot. So an average person is just a bit under an inch and a half. but, most wargames figures are so over wide that they are a bit wider than a properly proportioned 1/48th figure. That out of the way, for really boig future tanks i use both. I even converted some 1/48th German infantry to aliens with head saps and a few odd shaped things for weapons. Worked just fine, but they tower over even GW troops. |

I have never heard of 'anyone' making 1/56 scale models, but it seems generally accepted that 1/48 works best for 28mm miniture gaming. Most of the major plastic model companies don't do 1/56, though Warlord and Italeri have recently entered into a partnership to make 1/56 vehicles. Gaming companies like Company B ( companyb.biz ) make 1/56 scale models. |
