Hi all! We, over at Racingspider Games have just posted our demo of Campaigner – map-based campaign management software for your tabletop games.
Its been in development for a long time and we're really happy to finally have it out there! We plan on having a few demo campaigns that cover different genres, but the current demo will show you a lot about what Campaigner can do. Hop on over and take a peek. racingspidergames.com

Campaigner can be used to make campaigns of any genre or historical setting. You can recreate actual campaigns from WWII or whenever or simply make up your own.

Why did you post this when you already have an item under Hobby News?

Your web site appears to have a problem:
"Not Found
The requested URL /indi.htm was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/1.3.37 Server at racingspidergames.com Port 80"

Mike,

The link in your post works just fine for me.

Hmmm … curious:

This one works:
racingspidergames.com

This one gives the error in my previous post:
racingspidergames.com

Mike,
I posted this here because not everyone looks at the Hobby News. :)
The website is being worked on and may "pop" back and forth. Give it a whirl again and it should be available.

racingspider16 Oct 2007 3:34 p.m. PST

Mike,
What browser are you using? I'll test it under that browser.

Grizwald16 Oct 2007 3:38 p.m. PST

"not everyone looks at the Hobby News. :)"

They don't???

"The website is being worked on and may "pop" back and forth."

Er … no. racingspidergames.com should resolve to the same address as racingspidergames.com. Looks like they don't. I think you may have a DNS problem.

Grizwald16 Oct 2007 3:48 p.m. PST

Hmm … even more curious.
The URL with "www" in gives a page with the error I gave above when rendered in Firefox. It has "Racingspider Games" in blue lettering on a black background (with a nice spider graphic) across the top, and a menu down the left hand side (again with a black background).
If I switch rendering engines to IE, I get a page with a white background and a grid over it and two rows of three blue buttons across the top.
I also get that page with the white background if I use the URL without the "www" in it.

Maybe not DNS then.

racingspider16 Oct 2007 4:00 p.m. PST

Yeah, that page your seeing in firefox is the old front but we dropped it because it only showed up properly in IE. So, we quickly tore it down and put the new one up.
It could be that parts of the data are cached (the index.htm) out there as the new index.htm propogates.

I clicked on the download and unzipped the folder, but get a "Failed to Initialize" error whenever I try to run the demo. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?

WarmasterCharlie16 Oct 2007 6:22 p.m. PST

Hey, this looks great! Can't wait to see the rest of the tools when they become available. Great job!

Jakar Nilson16 Oct 2007 10:56 p.m. PST

I got the same response as Proto Clown. All of the programs are interupted by a pop-up window. Were these properly compiled?

Beat me to it – mine is still under development, in its fourth year…

Ditto Tango 2 117 Oct 2007 6:27 a.m. PST

Mike – I'm glad they posted here. Hobby news changes so fast and I personally rarely read any of the hobby news highlights but do go through the message board topics.

racingspider17 Oct 2007 10:21 a.m. PST

You need the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 to run Campaigner. You can google ".NET Framework 2"
or

Unless something overtly catches my eye, I always scroll right past hobby news to the message board section so yes not everyone peruses hobby news. Thanks Racing Spider.

Mate this is great. I can see great prospect here for my solo campaigns.

I would be great to have a user section on your website for users to submit maps and compaign datafiles and such.

I am figuring out how to use it for my Naps campaign. I guess there will be more parameters that can be entered and adjusted in the full release? When is the full release due and how much will it be marketted at?

racingspider18 Oct 2007 11:31 a.m. PST

A user section would be very nice and we're definately planning on putting something together for community submitted maps, campaigns and other resources.

As far as more parameters, what did you have in mind that is missing?

WarDepotDavid19 Oct 2007 1:42 p.m. PST

I think it would be great to somehow be able to import .jpg or .bmp map files and then create all you transparent sections that can be assigned the different terrain types. That way you could import a google earth image, then draw all the sections for the roads, hills, rough, plains, water, etc.

racingspider19 Oct 2007 2:15 p.m. PST

You can with FlexMap. :)

racingspider19 Oct 2007 2:21 p.m. PST

And I'll elaborate… the campaign map is a FlexMap which can be created with FlexMap Builder which is free for use.

The maps will be able to be used in OTHER stuff as well, not just Campaigner. The "Pranu City" map is exactly the kind of map you have described (bmp with transparent overlays).

At our website, there is a small section for FlexMap
link
the middle sample map there is "Pranu City", bmp based map with overlays.
