I have been using a 10 side die for several years and have only just found out that it has 2 zeros and no one. It went straight in the bin. Anyone else had this problem?

Jeremy Sutcliffe01 Oct 2007 1:04 a.m. PST

I use micro-dice as markers. Recently I found 2 with 2 x 3 and 0 x 1. mind you as I've started gluing them to pennies and lanscaping around them with an appropriate number upright, it doesn't really matter.

Thistledo01 Oct 2007 2:17 a.m. PST

I have never thought to actually check my dice.
Is this going to cause wargamers across the world to obsessively examine their dice hoards?

AndrewGPaul01 Oct 2007 2:40 a.m. PST

I was playing in a game organised by a friend, who also supplied the dice. In amongst said dice were a load of Salute dice, the ones given away at the door. At one point, my models coudn't hit a target to save themselves (nor make a saving roll :( ). Turns out one od the Salute 'D6' was actually a D3.

I use some D10s with an Ankh symbol instead of a '1'. I've seen nearly identical dice (same colour, same colour of numbers), except with an Ankh instead of the '0'. Thankfully, I've never seen both kinds used in the same game.

The dice Gale Force 9 make for Warmachine and Hordes cause confusion, too; they have the faction symbol replacing the 6, whereas almost all other 'novelty' D6 have the symbol replacing the '1'.

As someone routinely confused by the dice of Andy's Warmachine playing mates yup, I think some FoR dice have the symbol as the 6 rather than the 1.

A pal played well at Warhammer Fantasy for a while.
Then he realised that his percentile die were, in fact, lottery dice that could only go 0-4 on the tens, and 0-9 on the units, so he usually got his success rolls He figured it out and confessed. Genuine mistake.

I thought everyone checked their dice on purchasing them. I know I do. And no, I'm not not trying to be facetious or anything… grin Honest, I really do check new dice.

But I come from the period of time when my first polyhedra dice were the TSR pieces of crap whereby a d20 (which was used as a d10) was more likely to be round like a ball…

Ravenseye01 Oct 2007 5:30 a.m. PST

…this could take months…

thanks…

Never thought to check! Now I'll be examining dice for months…..

My mother used to be an enthusiastic player in my Call of Cthulhu games. I visited the Armory in Baltimore (?) and got back into the stock area to pick out what I wanted. Bought her a lovely purple D100 (00 through 90 on ten sides) because purple was her favorite color. She happily used that die for six months until I realized that it was actually a D50 ! (two each of 00 through 40 – - WHO in the world would ever WANT such a thing??) Since rolling low is good in CoC, she had been happily shotgunning cultists and passing luck checks with abandon. And it was hard to complain, since I had given her the die.

I've mistakenly used Average Dice instead of D6s and wondered why I couldn't make a saving throw. I've done the same with D20 and D10 mix ups.

Lone Eagle01 Oct 2007 8:41 a.m. PST

A friend of mine has a d6 that has has the following dots.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and a 7.

Andrew Walters01 Oct 2007 9:01 a.m. PST

The very nice custom dice Chessex has available come in two versions: you can have your logo in place of the 1 or in place of the 6. Its vitally important you keep in mind which you're playing with.

I was getting decimated in one game before I remembered that the Endgame dice have the logo in place of the 6, not the 1. I was rolling an average 2.6 instead of 3.6, getting twice as many 1s as anything else, and getting no 6s. Bit of a setback, that.

Andrew

PS I think Chessex will put your logo on some other side, but it costs more.

I remember the first set of rules I ever bought – Decalset's ACW rules.

I was totally bemused by them, especially where they referred to "average dice" with no further definition – I mean a standard dice like I used for monopoly or snakes and ladders seemed pretty average to me.

andygamer02 Oct 2007 3:26 p.m. PST

Does this make you a die day dodger, Dave?

Dave Knight02 Oct 2007 3:34 p.m. PST

Probably more a dodgy day dier

andygamer02 Oct 2007 8:51 p.m. PST

I am not a new war gamer by any means but am new to this forum concept, I have just spent several minutes quitely and contently amused reading through this topic (while the wife watched Eastenders). So I thought I'd share this with you, when it comes to strange dice I have one with two threes and a war gaming pal of mine has a round D6.

Jeremy Sutcliffe12 Oct 2007 12:53 p.m. PST

Starman,

Take care – While Eastenders was on this time. Soon you will need the Sunday omnbibus edition – and then you'll have to record it regularly so your wife can be kept busy with repeats.

These fora are addictive!

Starman13 Oct 2007 2:10 p.m. PST

Bet you can't guess what I'll be doing when the wife watches the omnibus to catch up on the missed episodes from this week?

I started a new AD&D campaign this month with a whole new set of players. They were both amused and confused by my dice collection. The thief kept trying to "accidentally" use a 10-sided d5 for his skill rolls, and the cleric accidentally rolled to hit using a d24 at least once.

Of course, I had to tease both of them about their dice issues. Then, later in the game, I grabbed the wrong die when rolling initiative. The player characters rolled a "3." My goblins rolled a "snoring."

From now on, I'm making sure weird things (like the "Hear Noises" die I rolled) are in a separate pile from the numbered dice before the game starts.

RedAce23 Nov 2007 7:17 p.m. PST

Got 2 D30's. Anyone know a game that uses 'em?
Also, courtesy of GW a D6 numbered 1,4,5,5,6,Blank

I guess that I am going to have to check my dice out now.
