Well, looks like our gaming group's Star Wars game night is gonna be a regular thing. I am building a large Tatooine table, using various ideas from TMP threads and links, but, I love "Afrika Mustard" color, and thus all my desert style terrain and groundwork tends to be, well, Afrika Mustard in color (its the paint i used for my interior of my house, so I also have buckets of it). What do yall think about a Mos Isley "like" city that is much darker and yellower (is that a word?) (buildings, terrain, everything)than the movie and most terrain boards. Is it sacreligious? I also figure I can use it for my Non Star Wars 5150/Fast and Dirty games too. Next weeks game will be a "display game" at a local hobby shop, so I don't want to look stoopid with unrealistic colored stuff. |

It's your game. They don't like it, they can make their own terrain to their specs and give it to you. ;) |

It could always be "the other starport on Tatooine."
and here's a shameless plug to show off some of my Tatooine terrain: link And if you haven't seen Mike's Star Wars TROOPS game from this year's Origins then you're life isn't complete

The name Afrika mustard certainly suggests the desert to me. I prefer a sandy tan that matches my "camel" ground cloth, but I think you can pick just about any neutral earth-tone color and get good results. Since you are using only one dominant color and matching the buildings to the ground color you probably will give the right overall impression. If your color is so unusual that no one wants to believe it is Tatooine, you could just change the planet name. If you made a bunch of similar buildings and painted them all bright red or blue with canary yellow details, I think the consistent repetition of the style and color across the table would still suggest Star Wars universe to me. |

Well, it's fairly expensive, but Snapdragon does some beautiful stuff perfect for Tatooine

When they show the panet as a whole, there are decidedly some spots with more red, brown and yellow. Also, the films were shot in tunisia, How far away is the part of africa your color is suposed to look like? I think it will work very well. |

Thanks guys. Y'all are right, besides the actual Mos Eisley and the city in Pahantom menace, its varied terrain, and I did notice the redish tones. I'll be fine with my Africa Mustard, especially weathered and highlighted. Thanks ;) |

Australia has red desert. There exist beaches with black sand. go figure, all on one planet. It's real short-sightednes of sci-fi fans to think that any planet of any style, desert, ice, jungle, whatever, would look the same all over the globe. Of course there are different climate zones, different rock formations and different types of rock or sand. |

I love the redish desert look as well. 0 |

Hey, Smokeyroan. Thanks for the kind words! Send me pics when you're done and I'll host 'em on my site. What rules are you going to use? |
MaksimSmelchak | 18 Sep 2007 3:06 p.m. PST |
Hi SR, I've made a whole list of Tattoine terrain characteristics in a Word document
Remind me to send you a copy. Good luck with your project, mate! Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. 6mm-minis.blogspot.com |

I love that Mustard color two as a base coat. I use it for my Afrika Vehicles. For Star Wars I like the lighter colors. Here are some of my Sci-Fi buildings from a Star Wars and a SST game: link & link The SST pictures are more true-tone. These were painted a base color of FOLKART Sunflower and drybrushed with DELCOAT Light Ivory for a creamy yellowish stucco. Lost Pict |

Great Stuff LostPict!! LOL, your palm tree terrain pieces look exactly like mine! Nice. Your whitish buildings look good on your groundwork, makes me think I can lighten mine up and still use my desert board :) |

LostPict, where did you get the sandcrawlers??? I want one! I need One bad! |
wordwildwebb | 24 Sep 2007 11:36 a.m. PST |
Diamond did an Exclusive run of the Sandcrawler a couple of years back – you can still find them on Ebay and some comic stores. Its a remake of the 70's remote control action figure one, sans remote and engine. I ran a Mos Eisley game at Origins this summer – we used scratchbuilt foamcore buildings, Crescent Root (GREAT STUFF),several Monolith buildings, bits from Star Wars Action Fleet toys (thanks for the articles, HG WALLS!), and some really nice GF9 pieces like the custom Cantina
Several pages of pics at link including some of 2006's Hoth game. The crashed starship (Dowager Queen) and the GI Joe conversion to the Lucky Despot cantina may be going on ebay soon – if I can get off my butt and list them. |

Probably should have sent this link – picture It has the table overview. About 450 square feet of desert-y goodness! |

Just started that Star Wars bug again and searched the TMP site. That sand crawler is my pride & joy SWMG find. The Jawas had a great time flattening a Sandpeople village with their crawler, until that made it to Mos Boots. Vengenance seeking Sand People attacked them with IEDs. The jawas all climbed on top of the crawler for a better field of fire. When the IEDs simultaneously went off, all but on of the Jawas was knocked off the crawler to their deaths. The Jawa-Sand People war has been a recurring theme in several battles as a result. By the way, wordwildwebb, your terrain rocks! Lost Pict |
