Can anyone recommend some picture sources? I have some ideas and raw materials for terrain production, but I could use some examples. |

My mental image of barbed wire entanglements is coiled barbed wire streached out with stakes every 3-4 meters. Sometimes stacked, two bottom coils and one top. Wire wrapped around x shaped supports where it should be removable like accross roads. Anyone seen anything that would contradict that for USSR or Germans on the eastern front. |

Lentulus: There are a number of "styles" of wire obstacles. Armies like the WWII Germans would employ several different "styles" depending on resources, time, and terrain. While not a link to "east front", this is a description of German wire fortifications in WWII
. they would use the same methods everywhere (and basically, this description seems pretty close to universal). link And something more specific on the Soviets, but less specific on the wire. link Chalfant |

Oh, from that first link
the trip wire obstacles (tanglefoot), I think that there is a typo there
I think the wire should be at 1 foot 8 inches (20")
.. reference here the US version (you will see the similarities), and the tanglefoot (trip wire obstacle) is set at 9"-30". link Chalfant |

Thanks! That gives me some good prototype for barbed wire terrain segments. |

I bought a set of these the other day from Rattlehead Games (GREAT service by the way!). link I haven't put mine together or painted them yet, but the kit is perfect for being able to reproduce what you see in the above links. There is even a place on the website that shows how to do some of the different types (coil, curtain, etc.) Keith |

Very nice barbed wire link there
When I think of Barbed wire obstacles, I think Cat 1, 2 & 3 wire (8, 88 and 8o8, needing 2, 4 or 5 Concertina's) personally. I know that's modern style, but it's near enough for most purposes. 8 is the style of the last obstacle, however I'm used to the concertina's having wire similar to the top method keeping it in place (without the cross wires of course), rather than being loose. |
