There's a lot of expertise here at TMP, and I was wondering if anyone has come across a weak Osprey Campaign book on a topic that you really know well.

For example a book that seems to present an out of date account of the battle, fails to identify myths that have been debunked in other works, etc.

Many people reach for a Campaign when they branch off into new territory, but perhaps some books get people off on the wrong foot? Any lemons out there?

I remember that the Ospreys Gladiator book was ripped apart page by page, line by line by a group the was really into gladiators and Roman history (wish I saved the site report). Apparently a lot of the dates and historical fact were wrong (much like the new movie the last legion Uhggg) I still enjoyed the read and had some knowledge that some facts were wrong so I let it slipped by. As always Angus McBride's art work was great.

The Kursk one used to be fairly dreadful, don't know if they've re-done it or not.

The Ebro one has a number of annoying typos in it, but is a good solid work otherwise.

As always Angus McBride's art work was great.

Much like playboy, don't we all only read the McBride issues for the pictures? I just bought the latest Byzantine Osprey because I figured it might be McBride's last work. Now I'm all interested in Byzantines.

In many ways you have to look at books designed along the Osprey format was not being an in depth scholarly work.

Many would be trashed by acedemic Book Review staffs.

The format is intended to wet a person's desire to conduct more research into a topic or battle. There should not be taken as 'gospel' or the final word on any topic.

That would explain why some OSPREYS have no bibliography!!!!
