I know there was a lengthy article/tutorial out there in one of the LOTR discussion groups, but I can't find it now. All I found was this one: link The other one I somewhat remember was very, very detailed and the final product looked outstanding. Does anyone remember? Thanks. CC |

The tutorial I'm thinking about showed how to make the entrance gate to Edoras, just like in the film: picture link CC |

I found it! I found it! Part I link Part II link Part III link I would love to apply concepts from both tutorials, such as the basic floorplan of the one posted on the GW site, but with the detailing of the Last Alliance tutorial. What do you think? CC |

I should have done a better TMP search for "Edoras": TMP link CC |

What do I think? Hmmm
welll
I'm not really sure what the point is, since although it *might* have been palisaded as in the film, to the extent that it could keep out maybe a one-legged hobbit (although there is no evidence in the primary sources that it was
), Edoras/Meduseld was not considered one of the strong places of the Riddermark, which is why
Oh, wait: hold on just a minute. Ahem. ***SPOILER ALERT*** If you have not read the Lord of the Rings trilogy or seen the movies, you may wish to stop reading now.
The fortified refuges of the Rohirrim were, of course, Helm's Deep and Dunharrow. It is unclear if there had been a muster of Edoras prior to the battle at the Fords of Isen; as First Marshal, Theoden should have commanded it himself; what forces Theodred had managed to get chopped up are not recorded. But Theoden et al. knew that as they were scrambling to protect the residents of the King's Lands, they would not have been adequately protected at Edoras, and packed the lot off to Helm's Deep.
Likewise, that is why the muster of Rohan (once Theoden got around to mustering it, silly old man) was not assembled at Edoras, but at Dunharrow. Although the immediate threat from Saruman was quashed, it was expected that as the Riders trooped off to the aid of Gondor, armies issuing from the East would come against Rohan, so the boys mounted up and headed for a secure spot to collect the troops, with the intent of packing Eowyn back to hold the indefensible palace. Gentlemen all, that lot. So building it for fun? OK. Building it for some role-playing adventure, where somebody has to sneak into the courts of Edoras and the Golden Hall? OK. But as a bit of wargaming terrain to fight over? Well, I wouldn't. That's what I think. But then I, as Kathryn Hepburn would say, am an old poop. Allen |

Gee, Dan, you finally remembered that you had another thread on this subject, and pointed yourself to it. And you posted on the other thread, pointing yourself back here. Do you talk to yourself a lot? You seem to be able to carry on fairly lengthy threads with no-one else posting. Or is it that you have to leave bread crumbs in a trail behind you everywhere you go, so you can get back again? How often do you misplace your car keys? Inquiring minds want to know. ;^) Allen |

"Or is it that you have to leave bread crumbs in a trail behind you everywhere you go, so you can get back again? How often do you misplace your car keys?" Yep. I'm getting old. At least my brain is going first. The cross-references help to make sure I don't misplace important bits when I finally do get around to work on those projects. Believe it or not, I have had projects that were put on hold for a year or two. Then, when I finally need the information, the cross-reference or cross-links have been a lifesaver. Sorry if it seems annoying. You should see all the reminder notes I have to leave myself around the hotel room and back at home. My apologies. CC |

Bwahahahaaaaaaaaa . . . Allen you slay me!! I was just thinking the same thing about Dan before I eventually came to your posts on this thread. At least he is never bored though and can carry on a thread on his own. One can't help laughing and he must be a character in the flesh I think :-) Frank |

No member of this forum needs to apologize for posting to it. Poops and other forms of bores can take a flying leap off the top of Barad Dur. Personal attacks on members is very bad form. If you can't speak nicely, then go to your room. Yes, that cold dark one cut from the basement stone. There, you can laugh at others to your black heart's content, and the rest of the nice people don't have to listen. |

Seriously, guys. One of these days I'm gonna take a picture of my work area so you can see how many sticky notes I have to keep around me. :) CC |
