Hi all!

I love reading AArs and posting mine up for all to read and comment on.

I am thinking a lot of others probably feel the same, especially if they are looking at certain sets of rules, figures, period, scales, etc. AND especially if they are like me and have so many unfinished projects on the go that they hardly even get an actual game in.

SO,

I am thinking of starting a blog, say aarcentral.blogspot.com where all have access to add their AARs and add comments and questions to those that take their fancy. I would also allow readers to post a link to their AARs already published to reduce any duplicity but a full report posted would be preferred.

The idea would be that all that inspiring and entertaining AAR content would be located or linked through 1 site for those who are addicted to that sort of reading – such as I.

What do you think?

David

It sounds like a good idea. It also sounds like a lot of work, but if you are willing to do it, then all the better. Good luck on your project. I like to read AARs.

WarDepotDavid26 Aug 2007 6:18 p.m. PST

It shouldn't require much work at all. Anyone can add to the AARs post. I would then label their posts to the Era, Scale, etc so others can find them easily.

Very good idea. There's about twenty on the THW website that I can transfer if and when you're ready.

WarDepotDavid26 Aug 2007 7:59 p.m. PST

Excellent response. I've added a few of mine.

HOW TO ADD YOUR AAR

1. Email your AAR or send the link to your AAR to me direct at milsims @iprimus .com .au
2. Click on the Comments link at the bottom of this Post to add your own AAR or link

It's important for readers to be able to get to your AAR easily. Therefore, you need to specify:

1. Era or genre
2. Scale
3. Figures used or Manuafacturer
4. Rules used

Thanks
David

erm, isn't this thread on TMP doing exactly what your proposed blog will do ?

WarDepotDavid27 Aug 2007 5:38 a.m. PST

Yes. If you're only interested in WWII AARs. But what about if you want to have a read of a WWI AAR, or what if you want an AAR using Gransd Armee, or using Baccus 6mm figures. What if on you lunch break you want to read a couple of Napoleonics AARs.

I jumped on here a couple of weeks ago to check out a few AArs and spent hours trying to find Naps, Medieval and Roman AARs and even then I was disappointed with just how many were on here. Most were referrences to other peoples sites that I then had to save to my favourites and remember to check in on them every week or two to see if they had written up any more battles.

AARs are being written up every day. Hardly any of them are being put on here at all. The idea of this thread was see if people thought it would be a good idea to get 1 reference point and try and capture all that data for those that want to read it. Isn't that the point of publishing an AAR in the 1st place?

You can't be serious.

I probably average one a week but cannot imagine most would find them of much interest.

My WWI aircraft stuff is posted on the Canvas Eagles Yahoo Group (older stuff) and WWI Aviation Yahoo Group (newer stuff). Also have some WWII AAR's on the Spokane WWII Yahoo Gruop. Not all AARs are posted I think they might be of little interest except to those who are being needled (common sport in our groups).

Looks like I'm going to be taking on some Austrian Alpine positions on Friday. I'll see if I can get you a report of that game.

The report is with the pics. It is up to you. Probably easiest to link it since I will be posting virtually every Con event to my site. :)

However, if you want it a different way just let me know and I'll try to work it out.

WarDepotDavid29 Aug 2007 6:37 p.m. PST

Thanks FMG

Did you want to specify the scale and the figures used?

Hello group. Does anyone know of a decent set of seige rules for the ancient period? Medival period would be good to I would just adjust for the different time period.

Mad Guru Supporting Member of TMP22 Jun 2008 10:27 p.m. PST

Hi kawkid,

I have simple answer for you: TACTICA MEDIEVAL siege rules, which are included in the Tactica Medieval rulebook. Pretty simple, relatively fast-play, lots of dice -- as with all things "Tactica" -- but quite historically accurate, in my humble opinion. Easy to adjust backwards in time for ancient siege warfare. The rules are now close to 20 years old but they are still excellent.

Much more recent alternative is Warhammer Ancient Battles, which recently came out with a SIEGE AND CONQUEST rulebook. Rules are filled with awesome color photos of miniature castles, forts, siege engines and armies. I'm not a big fan of the rules system in general but it is very popular. I actually bought the "Siege and Conquest" rulebook just because I am such a Medieval siege warfare and siege wargaming geek. Beautiful to look at but I would still choose the old Tactica Medieval siege rules. I would check eBay for the old Tactica Medieval rules. There were also several volumes of Tactica ancient rules but I'm pretty certain none of those included siege warfare.
