Currently searching the web for images of the villages around the battle of Austerlitz so I can make some buildings in 28mm. Try googling Austerlitz and Slavkov u Brna for images, you'll find sites like this: link ahoj.pays-tcheques.com/brno But I`'ll pass the word to a friend who's been there recently. |

If you want current buildings try photographing your nearest MacDonalds Restaurant – yep, theres one on the battle field now, near the Zurlan and Santon on the main highway. In the McDonalds carpark they've incorporated an earlier erected memorial to the Russians – a large bronze Russian Grenadier in Mitre Hat stands at the edge of the carpark – quite the most incongroups thing you've ever seen in a McDonalds carpark. That would be funny, sneaking a scale model McDonalds into your Austerlitz table top. Wonder if anyone would notice it? |

Would McDonalds have served wine, beer or whatever in 1805? That would have kept it safe from artillery targeting. |

Have you thought about taking a stroll on Google Street View? – because the battlefield's all there. Countless examples of old houses still there – look out for the same single-storey type as in the villages outside Vienna, as the 10mm on my 1809 Blog: link For 1805 in this part of the world, avoid having villages with anything grander than single-storey rendered houses. (Don't fall into the German town house trap.) However, there is usually always a church and sometimes a municipal building. The character of which usually reflect something of the area. |
