I have bought and painted a large amount of "Age of Battles" miniatures, and have also purchased a translated version of the Rules from the michiagan toy company. The rules are interested, along with the moral, and i believe this to be a very interesting system…

Unfortunately, i do not know what the special rules for some units actually mean, such as "Light Infantry", "Legionaries", "Avalanche", etc…

Could somebody please help me? I have looked everywhere for these rules, even on there site, but to no avail.

wow, i spelled Zvezda wrong…ugh

The best explanation I got was when I cross referenced my historical rules with the Ring of Rule Game system. The Legionaries rule is used with the Romans. You need a lot of figures for this- like 8 stands of 12 men each. It is essentially a way to rotate units around from the front to the back and bring fresh units to the front.

I believe Light Infantry allows you to move figures from your front rank up to 6 inches away and to the flanks of the stand or unit. I think they can fire in the fire phase then move to the stand and reform, and I also believe that if they are attacked in a charge they move to the stand and complete melee there.

Avalanche is an ability used by the Gauls that requires you to place the figures in a criss-cross pattern in the stand. All ranks get filled.

Thats all I know! I will have to reference my rule sand double check.

Hope that helps!

So should i just purchase the ring of rule system as well and use those special rules? It seems quite odd that Zvezda would not really support there own game internationally.

Actually- my version of the Ancient rules has all of the above information. I had to reference my rulebooks. I have the rules that were included in the Marathon set and the rules from the Borodino set. Maybe I can find a way to make them into PDFs.

Don't blow the money on Ring of Rule. Its an ok game but if you have the Zvezda rules already you should have everything.

Now I'm puzzled!

I purchased a translated version from Michigan Toy Company…but it may be from a previous version (i.e not 3rd edition).

If you could scan the pages of the rules or turn them into PDF's i would be in your debt, i would even pay you via paypal if you really wanted it. I just don't want to have to blow another 15 bucks on a new set of rules!

I think we found the situation! My two Zvezda games were from the latest "batch" that came over from Russia. My rule book that came with my Marathon set includes all the relevant rules for fighting with Ancients and the Middle Ages.

I am starting as a teacher this year after 10 years as an environmental scientist, and I am very overwhelmed. What if I make copies of the rules you don't have and mail them to you.

Email me at m5man@yahoo.com and we will get this figured out.

I am a big believer in having the rules you need!

I sent an email to you, thanks!

Hello!

I have the Ages of Battle battle in lake Peipus, but the rules just have the stats for the armies in the box, is there a rulebook I can buy to get the stats for other medieval armies?
