Who makes Hesse Darmstadt troops for the Danube campaign in 1809. I suppose I can use 1806 Prussians for infantry but what to use for the Cheveaux leger |

Hesse-Darmstadt changed over to French style shakos in 1809. Officers retained the bicorns until 1816. For Chevaulegers, I'd think either Austrians or Bavarians would work depending on scale |

Ironsides, sorry forgot to mention: 15mm figures. Berlichtingen, according to various sources I have, the bicorn and older (prussian style) coat was worn in germany until after the 1809 campaign. In Spain they wore the shako and surtout. |

There is a specific OG set of Hessian cav in 15mm. The problem with the inf is that they had French equipment but still wore bicornes. John |

OG has the cavalry but they are in a short tailed jackets rather then the long tailed one worn. Spanish infantry might be the solution to 1809 Hessian infantry. |

Got this from the net when chasing the same info 1809 Hesse Darmstadt troops The uniform is very close to 1806 Prussians and IMHO the best 1806 Prussians are AB Figures available from Eureka Miniatures. The main difference between the Hessians of 1809 and the Prussians of 1806 was that they had turned their knapsacks (worn on the hip) into backpacks (and had added a second shoulder strap to hold the straps in place). Other than that, they were virtually identical. Use Bavarian Chevauxlegers for Hessian Chevauxlegers and 1806 Prussian Cuirassiers for the Garde du Corps. Leibgarde Regiment = red facings with white lace Leib Regiment = sky blue facings with white lace Fusilier (3rd) Battalions – uniforms the same but for green coats (the jury is out whether they had white or black belts) – they were white in 1806. Overall trousers were worn, like the Prussians in 1806. The hat lace was removed from Hessian hats in 1806. Hope it helps. |

Hi, Sorry to ressurect such a dead post but for the third battalion – what colour should the cockade / plume be on the hornists? Thanks Malc |

Malc, the Peter Bunde plates I used as my point of reference depict all musicians as having the same red, edged-white cockade (with white 'loop') as all other infantry. Similarly, plumes are the same as the other soldiers of that company: 1st Co = White, 2nd Co = Dark Grey, 3rd Co = Royal Blue, 4th Co = Red, 5th Co = Yellow/White (half & half, with White on top), 6th Co = Dark Grey/White, 7th Co = Royal Blue/White, 8th Co = Red/White. |
