The difference for me between a good convention and a great convention is generally something unexpected. This year's Historicon was no different in that regard. The dealer's hall was great, but it always is; the flea market went extremely well, both from a coordinator's standpoint (Matthew and I ran it again), and from a buyer's point of view, but it went well last year, too; the hotel was pretty good over-all, despite a few glitches, as it usually is, etc. etc. etc.
What made this Historicon memorable was getting to meet Ken Cliffe and his wife Gina, of All the Kings Men. They are super people, and their figures must be seen to be believed! I got everything I wanted and more, at truly EXCELLENT prices. (And as an added bonus, Gina put on a demo game and let us win…)
From here Ken plans to go into the War of 1812--I plan on being his first customer.

I agree completely about ATKM. I've known Ken for a number of years now and it's true, he and his wife Gina are super people. Ken is a dedicated and resourceful addition to the hobby's manufacturing and retail community! And no, I'm not a sock puppet, just a good friend telling the truth. Ken's figures are great, his rules are easy to learn and fun to play (fashioned along old-school toy soldier rules lines), and his service second to none (able to leap tall buildings and convert Mexican regulars into British colonial artillerists in a single bound). Of course, it does help that he has a gorgeous wife helping to man his booth!

I would concur completely with Chris J above. Both Ken and his wife are lovely people (she more than he ;-)
I enjoyed playing the game, talking to them and am looking forward to painting the figures I purchased for my grandson.

Thanks Ken and Gina for a great product and a good time.

Wow, you guys make us blush! It was a lot of fun to meet and talk big toy soldiers with everyone at Historicon. The games with Chris, Matthew and Larry will be truly memorable. Gina and I had a great time. She is a real blessing as a wife and booth tender.

We're very pleased that you guys like our figures and products. We reckon if we ever don't want to buy our own stuff, whether for content of price, we've gone astray.

Thanks again,

Ken

I must admit, it was tempting when I was at the ATKM table but I think that is something I may save for when my nephew is a bit older or I have kids of my own. Get them into larger figures first. I also some some large sized medieval wargaming that was equally interesting.

Hey, Praetorian. I'm pleased that you were intrigued by the figures. Maybe one day I'll convince you to make the leap!

The even larger medievals you saw were probably hosted by Chris Parker, another ardent 54mm collector who's gone even larger for games with his own published rules. He uses commercially available plastics that are quite nice. I wish I could have gotten away from the booth to check his games out!

Tell you what Ken, if you have a game set up at the next Historicon, I am there!

Dude, you're on!

Hmmmmmmm, if you make the figures I need I had thought to put on Cowpens at 1:5 at Historicon08. Well Ken could you be convinced to cast a British Light, Fusilier, Highlander, Tarleton and American Dragoon and Militia by then?

It was great meeting you and your wife, the figures are awesome and I'll post to one of my blogs when I get a few of them painted!

Hey, Donald. Good to hear from you! Love the photo on your profile.

I can't guarantee that we can get all those figures out by next year, but you do strike the kinds of notes we have in mind. We foresee various diverse units that you just can't get in plastic, and that are hard to find in wargame-priced metals. More word soon.

Gents
Thought I'd chime in here. Missed ken at the show but do have some of his new figures allready. casualties are great.

I was the person running the big 90mm medieval games. Schleich and BBI make the best figures op them all and BBI is to do ACW soon.
