Good grief How many ing computer moderated rulesets are there? Your penchant for adding a board for_every_conceivable_facet_of_wargaming_and_daily_life is staring to look like OCD mate |

I think we need a "Miniature gamers with OCD board" or a board for Handicapped Wargamers to cover all mental and physical disabilities.

is there a program out there that would allow me to design terrain in 3d and then design my own units/miniatures and be able to put them on the virtual table top and play? I am very short on space and other than skirmish gaming, I can never do big huge battles, I would like a program that would allow me to say build a virtual 12' x 8' or whatever size table and then populate it with whatever type of miniatures I want (for example FoW WWII ) and then play – be able to move them, measure distance, etc I don't want any rules system or AI built in but just a virtual miniature construction set, anything like that exists? thanks BS |

Actually, BS, I believe there are several. Let me see
. there is "CyberBoard" at cyberboard.brainiac.com . There is "Gametable" at gametable.galactanet.com/#whatis . These are programs to design terrain and construct in your computer what they usually refer to as "pogs" that is visual counters that appear to be the figures seen from directly above. I don't know of any programs that would allow one to have a 3-D mini in use, although I suspect one could use a digital photo of one's minis and make "pogs" with those photos to use on one of those two programs. Hope that helps. |

I think this board is a good idea. Some players like myself prefer computer moderated systems. |

I agree with kawasaki. Forgive me Bill – I greatly appreciate your work here and am thankful our community has someone as dedicated to this sort of thing like you but Lard Thundering Jasus, Mary and Joseph, you'd be fired in a data management job. What's wrong with using game design? I've used that board for (fantastic) help for my own computer moderated camaign management system (which is still miles away from completion after three+ years). You've just got ridiculously restrictive specifications for boards. |

Kawasaki asked, quite a while ago: "How many [bleep]ing computer moderated rulesets are there?" I'm curious to know the answer to that too. I've written a couple dozen of them myself, although only one ("Shipbase III") has been sold commercially. I still get the occasional e-mail from people who still play it, not too shabby for a 15+ year old DOS program. Also in the realm of computer-assist naval miniatures wargame rules, there was the one from Shaka Software that covered Jutland (name of which escapes me at the moment) and another one covering Age of Sail called, I think, "Signal for Close Action" or something like that. Any others? For WWII land warfare, the only one I know of that was sold commercially was "WARS", although I've been working on Tankbase on and off since 1989. Any others? |
