Do you collect any specific period of flats, if so what period and manufacturers? Do you paint them or have you tried? I have a collection of OKI Kieler Franco-Prussian War figures about 240 pieces strong. I have a fair number of newer unpainted 30YW Cav and a few Napoleonics that I've sat down to paint a few times and haven't quite worked up to doing it yet. I keep an out for FPW flats although the price on eBay tends to be a bit high these days. Anyway, I'm curious what everyone else is doing. I'll photo my collection at some point and post them on one of my web blogs if any interest is out there. |

I came across pics for an Ancient Egyptian series that looked very nice. Never did get around to ordering any of them though – they seemed a bit intimidating. |

"I keep an out for FPW flats although the price on eBay tends to be a bit high these days." Yes, I find buying flats on eBay to be a real crapshoot. Sometimes you get a deal, but if the set is good everyone else knows it too and the bidding can ramp well past what's reasonable. It's the convenience that attracts, I suppose. |

I collect mainly 30mm. Lately I have become increasingly interested in 20mm. My interests are like Allen's: 17th century, and beyond into the WSS era. I also like ancients, primarily the Hellenistic kingdoms. Yes, I paint my own. Here's the latest, some Bavarian grenadiers. Produced by Neckel, from the "Army of the Blue King" series. picture picture Steve |

Steve, Those are amazing! That's why I haven't picked up a brush yet, I admit to being totally intimidated by artists like you! Ioannis those are beautiful also. Let us know as you post more photos! Donald~ |

Thanks, guys ! No one should feel intimidated by anybody else's painting. I paint with acrylics not oils, just like most others who paint wargames figures. Yes, it takes some practice with the shading. But the only way to get it is pick up the brushes. If you can paint a wargames figure, you can paint a flat. Look how well Ioannis did his first time out. Dive in and give it a shot, Donald ! Steve |

Nice to know you can get such great results with acrylics! I'm looking forward to giving it a shot! |

Mine are 7 years war Russian – no idea about manufacturer- I bougth rather a lot of them in St Petersburg. They are 30mm a mixture of infantry, artillery and musicians. There is a very large cannon and quite a bit of field fortifications – gabions and the like. Painting is toy soldierish – not like the wonderful pieces already shown on this topic – I will try an get some photos and download them. I have about 300 pieces – how I got them through the customs and airline weight limits I will never know but no one raised a question. |

Mie are mostly Ancients.. Egyptians, Assyrians, Persian, Greek / Macedonian, Roman / Carthaginian and Imperial Roman Gaul, German. Also 1683 Turks, Germans and Polish, and I just acquired several hundred unpainted SYW figures from an estate. |

I'm a bit like Paul (Vorwarts), mostly Ancients in part because they are so colorful. Especially like Kilia flats, but I sure wouldn't turn down Ancients by others such as Neckel, Lampert, Hinsch, GO International. The Heinrichsen flats seem to be a bit crude and stiff, but there are a lot of them out there and available. I'm not much of a painter – began painting a little over two years ago. Not as skilled as many flats collectors so I'll settle on a reasonable "high quality" war gaming level. |
