For fast, fun and easy to learn you might want to try the Legends of the Old West game from warhammer historicals. |

The second link from Drake is good and IMO better than the offical TSATF with more options. War on the plains is good for small war parties pre-palins wars e.g. inter tribal. Blood on the plains LOTOW is good too. |

Register with "Perfect Captain" link Go to files. Look for the Crazy Horse rules. |

Personally I'm in the "just getting starte by buying stuff" phase of trying to do Custer's Last Stand using Afriboria: link Afriboria is taking the Memoir '44 / Battlelore game system and tweaking it until it screams. But it looks like fun for colonials, which I hope means it'll be fun for Custer, too. |

What about Yellow Ribbon? IMHO, the BEST set of rules to reflect the Indians unpredictability. Available from RAFM. Thanks, John |

Unpredictability? Try to find a copy of Ian Beck's "Pony Wars" |

I second the opinion on Pony Wars (E Troop Ain't Coming Back). The game judge plays the Indians, who react to whatever the cavalry is doing. Lots of fun! |

I co-authored War On The Plains and War In the Forest. My rules set called "Counting Coup and Cutting Horses" covers intertribal skirmishes on the Plains. "War On The Frontier" is the same system adding in white men and extending coverage to the Eastern Woodlands. You can contact me for a copy if you are interested. |

Play tested a White Bird Canyon scenario using TTATF. Had a good game. Hans Von Stockhausen, the author, really did his research. In this scenario we had things like exhausted cavalry minus four inches in their movement while the Nez Pierce had fresh ponies run up to them from the village and got an extra dice for movement. |

Would one of these sets be good for playing scenarios of some of the scenes from the lonesome dove books? |
