Finally finished, and it only took six months and 23,333 shingles! Woo hoo! Check out the terrain gallery here: link Also, I wrote a new article outlining how to build basic structures to put on the tree. There will be a couple more articles coming, but here is a link to the latest one: link Also, here is a link to the building a mallorn tree article I wrote in February for completeness: link n. |

Fantastic! My only qualm would be endangering my figures at such an elevation, around ham-fisted gamers!. 1066.us |

Indeed, I personally dropped more figs from the heights of this tree than I can count! And one I almost lost down the drain as a consequence! Thanks for the positive feedback :) n. |

OK. I'm impressed. I assume from the extra effort you put in to make the lift-ff roofs that you are planning on playing with the terrain. What kind of scenarios do you have in mind? |

That is one very, very ambitious and impressive project there. Well done! |
artslave | 13 Jun 2007 9:26 a.m. PST |
Very nice. The feel of the architecture is just right, with a very organic, part-of-the-tree nature. I too would be nervous about some gamers I know fiddling with figures in the upper branches. |

The only thing I could say upon seeng the first pic of this was "Holy ." After looking at all the pictures of the completed project it's still the only thing I can say

What's this? A completed project? Beware the black hand of fate! Please tell me you still have unpainted figs as a precautionary. Absolutely wonderful work. Well done sir! ~OD |

Lovely! If someone's standing on the top platform, will he even have the range to shoot someone on the ground?! |
Tanuki | 14 Jun 2007 3:43 a.m. PST |
Neldoreth – that's absolutely fantastic! And Artilleryman – it's definitely "wolves", a reference the Edda, which lists the ages of strife that will follow the Fimbulwinter as Ragnarok approaches: "Age-age, sword-age, storm-age, wolf-age, ere the earth is overthrown". And you thought Peter Jackson only added surfing elves to the LotR movie! |

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback! It is greatly appreciated! And even though the chances of this seeing any real miniature gaming are slim, your praise has made it all worth it! As for gaming, yes it was designed to game on. In spite of JR's insistence that the orcs never made it within the eaves of Lorien, it will be used to play elven tree-style siege games! The platforms are fairly precarious indeed. The top one being 82cm (about 32") from the ground. Given that elves have only a 24 inch range, the higher parts of the tree are only good for defending the lower parts and not so good for defending the ground! Thanks again everyone! n. |
