Just purchased some 1:1200 WW2 IJN carrier planes (Zeros, Kates, and Vals) and some USN carrier planes (Wildcats, Devastators, and Dauntlesses). Now need appropriate decals for wingtips and fuselages but can't find any. I know someone here will point me in the right direction! Thanks in advance!

I don't think the print registration on multiple colours would be fine enough for decals in this size.
I paint my roundels on British planes and they are about 0.8mm diameter…
On one hand you have the decals printed on decal paper, so you'd have to cut them out – a very difficult task. On the other they'd be screen printed with a clear overfilm about .5mm oversize – they'd hang over the wings and fuselage.

The US star is probably the hardest insignia to do, but you'd be suprised at what you can get to look right in this size with just a dab and a dash…

There are a couple of firms that do 1/1200 decals, but they're mainly overscale; as Bolt Action says, that kind of size is very problematic in terms of print resolution and film overhang. I produce decals for 1/600 aircraft, and they're hard enough to get right…. ;-) With that said, if you really want the decal option, the smallest ones on my Japanese sheets are 1mm diameter and American 1.25mm, which should do fine for the wings on your planes (previous customers have bought them for just that) – they're definitely too big for the fuselage, though.

find an appropriate size brad or wire, dip into red paint and touch to fuselage or wing….instant meatball.

Appreciate all the advice. I have painted a rising sun on 1:6000 IJN carrier decks, so it shouldn't be a problem for the 1:1200 planes. Was really hoping not to have to try and paint a 5-pointed star on US aircraft! Guess I'll give it a try first before trying the decals. Thanks again!

Rob Miller of Michigan painted my 1:1200 planes years ago, and a dot makes a great star or meatball or roundel at that scale, and a simple black cross goes a long way to making the FW 190s distictively German.
