I am going to use my Airfix, Britains Deetail, DSG, Marx, and BMC 54mm Cavalry and Indians with the Warpaint rules.

The rules were designed for 25mm Old Glory figs (back in the day, when The emperor's Headquarters was on Irving Park and Austin in Chicago).

My question is this: Should I double the ranges or do you think a 1.5x the range would be sufficient to capture the flavor of the rules.

Input anyone?

In the past year or so, we did a survey on whether or not we should write a conversion sheet to help people adjust weapon distances and movement ranges for Gutshot (which also uses the same scale of figure: 25mm.28mm).

Resoundingly, people told usnot to bother, that if they were going to use larger figures they wouldn't change any of the movement or weapon ranges.

Most of the respondents listed three reasons for this:

1) In a skirmish game, it didn't matter, particularly in the Wild West where weapon technology was still relatively primative and ranges weren't precise.

2) Confusion: It was just faster to leave things as they were when looking up charts and info from the books or combat charts.

3) If you double the scale, the game takes on monstrous proportions that cuold easily exceed the size of your game table. In other words (in our game system, at least), a Character could run 24 inches in one Action. In two Actions, he'd be off the edge of the average game table. I think you can see how this would cut down the duration of chase scenes.

So, we did as asked and left everything alone. My advice for you is to do the same. Run a game or two (even a small solo one) and you'll see what I mean about the town scale.

mmitchell-

Thanks for the input. I measured each of the options out with figs on my desk and thought as you have suggested, I wanted to see if any others had toyed (pun intended) with the idea.

As a follow up. would you advise using the base of the fig or the head of the fig as the measuring points?

In the 54mm games I have played, we have kept the ranges the same as they are for 25mm. It seemed to work fine.
