I'm wondering if these two sets are worth the money, so am seeking opinions from others that may have purchased them?

I have the first rules set, and it is decent enough, however, I'm not sure how many new aircraft are covered in the other two supplements, and/or if they may even be the same for the other two. From the descriptions, both the 2nd and 3rd supplement sound very similar, e.g. recon missions behind enemy lines, etc.

Do they each have cards and special rules/damage chits for their individual aircraft?

How many aircraft are included in each, and which types in the two sets?

Is balloon busting fun, or a bit boring?

Watch your back appears to have 5 new planes including 2 seaters planes with their cards rules etc are listed as

Nieuport 11, hanriot HD1, Halberstadt D111,DH4,Ufag C1The
Burning Drachens looks similar although it appears you only get 2 planes(Don't know which) and 4 ballons which are made of card(Read that somewhere)plus rules ect.

as they can be played seperately or all together in an expanded game I guess most of the rules are the same although each plane comes with a set of movement/damage cards.
"Is balloon busting fun, or a bit boring?" sorry can't help with this bit sounds fun though.

I've just ordered the 1st set did you enjoy playing it and are the planes any good?

The second set introduces 2 seaters which are a whole new ballgame when it comes to aerial combat. They are really tough opponents. That back seat gunner makes all the difference in the world.

The third set enables balloon busting missions which are a lot of fun. I played it today at HMGS-Midsouth and we had a blast. The allies had a plane with rockets and the German's had a balloon, 2x AAA and a Albatros D.III. The Allies got a lucky hit with their first rocket and the balloon when boom BUT, since even they weren't expecting it, the aircraft was in the vacinity of the explosion and was crippled! The Albatros made quick work of him.

I totally recommend the game. I love the new miniatures as well. Not only do you get an assembed, well painted and based miniature, you get an additional manuever deck of cards. The comparison to a metal model breaks down like this in my opinion:

Cost of WoW miniature: $12 USD

Cost of Skytrex Miniature: $8 USD

For the addition of $4 USD you get 1 extra deck of manuever cards, 1 see through, properly marked base, fully painted and assembled model and a storage tray.

You can't go wrong. There are only 4 types of mid-war aircraft available in this wave but more are coming. They did an excellent job on this. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the info so far guys.

I would like to know which aircraft are included in the Burning Drachens set, as well as in the expansion packs – I know about the Sopwith Triplane, but not sure about the others.

I enjoyed the game that we played recently. It is much more satisfying playing with miniatures.

We did a one on one scenario the other day, which went a little long, since without more aircraft on the table, it can be reasonably easy to evade your opponent, if desired, and you guess well.

More planes would keep the game moving a little faster, no doubt, e.g. more shooting action and damage to the aircraft.

I like the hidden damage results cards – they are a nice touch.

The miniatures are also very nice, although I would have preferred a slightly different color for some of the German natural wood (I presume that is what they were aiming for on the Albatri) finishes. The lozenge paintjobs are superb.
Would like to see some more camo. options for the Albatri.

Overally, I am very pleased with the miniatures, and rules. The cards could be a little bigger, to provide more of a sense of movement on the tabletop, and there could be more aircraft provided for, but I imagine the latter will be addressed in time.

Once can always create their own larger cards, if desired, to permit greater movement on the gametable.

I plan to use some of my miniatures for true 3-D aerial gaming using Canvas Eagles, or Blue Max rules.

We make 3-D flight stands with swiveling heads that would be perfect for use with the minis, and with a little modification, e.g. cutting off the stalks from the undersides of the aircraft, and replacing them with a mini-magnet. That way, you can make your planes climb, dive, bank, or perform loops and Immelmann's, since inverted flight can even be represented with them.

E-mail me, if you want some info on the 3-D flight stands we manufacture and sell.

Now, I just need to find some 1/144th scale balloons to use on the tabletop too, since I much prefer the minis to just playing cards.

The Top Fighters and Recon Patrol boosters are pretty much unneeded if you're buying the FFG minis, right? They all come with the appropriate maneuver decks, so the boosters aren't really adding anything then, are they?

zippyfusenet03 Jun 2007 2:01 p.m. PST

Guess so Hundvig, but I haven't seen a release schedule for the Nexus planes; it might be a while before Nexus ships models of all those airplane types.
