Does anyone have a set they will sell me?I will pay more than cost,,,hard to find rules and need a place to buy the planes also.

Top Gun Ace30 May 2007 5:47 p.m. PST

Sorry, we don't carry those currently, but we do stock the 1/300th and 1/144th scale WWII and modern aircraft.

We also sell Duel of Eagles rules, which is an excellent set for WWII dogfighting, and has aircraft stats for most of the periods and major theaters of combat, unlike others which require you to purchase a separate rule book for each.

They do not require a hexmat for play, and permit 3-D maneuvering, if desired.

We have a game pack on auction currently, which includes the rules, 4 x 1/300th scale aircraft minis, 2-D flight stands, dice, and a sand timer too. If you use "Buy it Now" you also get free decals for four aircraft also. You can add additional aircraft, and 3-D flight stands to your purchase if desired, for no additional shipping charge, if you live in the USA.

This set is an excellent way to get started in aerial wargaming, and you will save a lot of money on rulebooks, if you want to game in multiple theaters of combat.

See the auction for more details:

You can also purchase the rules separately, if desired:

There is also a post-WWII set too, as well as some other items, e.g. the 3-D flight stands:

We sell direct too.

E-mail me, and I will send you a catalog of our extensive range of aerial wargaming products in 1/300th and 1/144th scale.

I hope that helps.

Good luck on your search.

grenadier al cheval30 May 2007 5:54 p.m. PST

zippyfusenet30 May 2007 7:14 p.m. PST

grenadier, have you asked on the Blue Skies Yahoo Group?

BlueSkies-L@yahoogroups.com

John Stanoch posts occasionally. Someone on the list will find you a set. You'll have to join the group, but it's worth the trouble.

Great leads thanks alot, cant believe how hard it is to find these rules.

Ed Mohrmann31 May 2007 7:13 a.m. PST

Yes, OnMilitaryMatters. I bought the whole Blue Sky
series (less the original, 'Squadrons,' which I already
have, and the projected Black Cross/Blue Sky [early war
and BoB], not yet in print) from them and they were
very prompt in shipping.

Planes: Scotia have a website, as does Collectair,
I believe.

planes…. did someone mention planes? … if you got a list I can puruse my collection of backlogged miniatures … and possibly spare ya few at reduced prices.

Another place for minis is teh "The Last Square" they were just here in Nashville over the weekend for a convention and I noiticed they had quite a bit of 1/300 aircraft..mostly NAVwar but they still em.

I assume these rules support 1/600th scale aircraft too?

Gracias,

Glenn

zippyfusenet23 Nov 2008 10:26 a.m. PST

Yes they do Glenn. Model scale is irrelevant to the Blue Skies rules, since they're played on a hex grid. You just need models small enough to fit into hexes small enough to fit enough hexes on a table to play the scenarios. 1/300 models combined with a Monday Knight 40mm hex mat work; so do 1/600 or 1/700 models. For 1/72 models you'd need a really big table.

Be sure you have a design of flight stand worked out that suits your models and taste. Several styles of stand have been designed for the Blue Skies rules, but I think they're all too big for 1/600 models. I've seen map pins used as stands for 1/600 planes, but I haven't been able to find the pins in the US. Ratz.

Ideally, a Blue Skies fligh stand should display:

1. Major altitude level (wave-top, low, middle, high).

2. Sub-altitude level (1-6 I think).

3. Hexes flown straight since last maneuver.

4. Damage points sustained.

These values can be displayed on dials, dice or markers attached to the stand, depending on the design. I personlly don't like analog displays of altitude, where the stand telescopes up and down or pegs are added to the upright element. I find them too fiddley for gaming, especially in small scales, especially when used in mass (Blue Skies scenarios usually comprise dozens of aircraft).
