Work.. In.. Progres..

I've had a few questions about the early 20th C pulp/adventure/horror game I'm developing ( hey, it's a welcome break from working on Target:Earth continuously! ) .. so I thought I would actually get an info page up for it, along with a couple of preview images.

Behold, for I hath also stuck on there a work in progress PDF of the current state of the game!

Please note that although the major bits and pieces are in ( movement, terrain, ranged and hand to hand combat, magic/summoning, luck, and 5 BASIC lists of the forces ) , they don't yet have the full force details or weapon stats. They are written, but not in the document as yet.

Please take a look and see what you think. I will be adding those shortly and uploading the document whenever possible.

Just put up an update WIP-2, on the web site now.

More detailed lists on the British, Americans, Pygmies, Aztecs and various special abilities, magic, spells, etc.

Still have the Cult of the Children of Cthulhu to put in… that should be in the next day or so.

Got some CoC source material on the way, so will be adding more 'big nasties' and various things like 'Atlantians' – aka fish-men and more nasty things.

John,

I just gave the rules a quick reading. I like the use of the d10 and the variety of forces. Some questions/comments:

If the weapon strength corresponds to damage points but is not often used against another statistic then wouldn't it be easier to just list damage points instead of strength? My understanding is that it is only compared when weak weapons are used against large creatures but that can be noted by creating a weak weapon class (i.e.-small arms and melee weapons) with your only hits large creatures on a 1 or 2 rule. Just a suggestion.

I personally don't like cm ranges, but I'm in the US.

A table of contents as the first page would be helpful in navigation of the 16 pages.

I like to see more rules mechanic differences between inanimate crewed vehicles (biplanes) and creatures in a rules set but that's my personal preference. For a quick game abstraction is fine though.

Many of the models have multiple wounds and other abilities/spells. Not a bad thing just that I would imagine quite a bit of record keeping for a large skirmish game. One thing to consider adding to the detail would be an insanity table for weak minded troops exposed to the horrors of Cthulhu.

Good luck on future developing. A good work in progress.

Thanks for the comments, all appreciated.

I really need to get round to updating the document… I've added quite a bit of things since uploading that version.

I like the suggestion of giving weapons damage points instead of strength… however, the reason I still use strength ratings is that various spells, artifacts and 'luck' can give a boost ( +1 ) to attack strengths; thus putting them above the 'only hit on a 1' rule, or chaining the bonuses to put them into the next damage category.

I've got rules for the Biplane to add, so that should make that a little clearer.. but as you say, it's ok for a 'quick' game – which is what i envisaged RoC to be; rather than a rules heavy detailed sim ( Target:Earth is more for that ) …. thanks to other peoples suggestions, I'll also be including other things too; more pulp settings, zeppelins, and more monsters and nasties.

A proper cover, contents, index and intro pages will all be added once the system has gone past the current 'WIP' status.

It's had to take the back seat for a few weeks as I've just started a new job and am working flat out on getting another game ready for printing….

Rest assured, Revenge of Cthulhu will be a main priority once I have that firmly sorted out.

This is an example of thread necromancy, serving no purpose but to push this topic to the top of the board after it has long since been forgotten. Bumping it this way serves no purpose.

Except that I am using it to illustrate what thread necromancy is, as discussed at TMP link

Dear God… what have you done??

Don't necromancers usually suffer a particularly ugly fate?
