Just as the subject line reads. :D Looking for good books on the naval end of guadalcanal, iron-bottom sound, etc… From small boat action and the Tokyo Express to the big ship action…

Thanks,

Richard B Frank's imaginatively-titled GUADALCANAL I found to be pretty darn good, although it also covers the air/land side of things, too.

Check out the books by Eric Hammel. "Carrier Clash: The Invasion of Guadalcanal and the Battle of the Eastern Solomons August 1942" is good, but "Guadalcanal Decision At Sea: The Naval Battle of Guadalcanal" is even better. I thoroughly enjoy everything I read from this author.

Samuel Eliot Morison's "History of Naval Operations in
World War 2". Look for the volume dedicted to Guadalcanal.

In support of John's recommendation, that would be Volume
V, _The Struggle for Guadalcanal – August 1942-February
1943_

ISBN 0-316-58305-7

I third Morison. It is a riveting account of desperate battle and awesome bravery on both sides.

Also look at "Tin Cans: The true story of the fighting destroyers of World War II" by Theodore Roscoe. Destroyer-centric, but a great read.

A Battle History of the Imperial Japanese Navy by Paul S. Dull, chapters 12 thru 18. One-fourth of the book (about 100 pages) describes the naval battles in pretty good detail and has some nice charts.

I'd also recommend the Richard B. Frank Guadacanal book. I think Toland's rising Sun also does a good job with that campaign.
